Position

Ong Sin Wei is the Co-Head of the WPGrow: Start-Up / Venture Capital Practice and a Partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions, FinTech and India Practices.

Career

Sin Wei has extensive experience in corporate and corporate finance matters including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate/investment funds restructuring and fund formation. In addition, he has particular experience in matters involving the venture capital/start-ups (including FinTech), asset management, investment funds and insurance sectors.

Sin Wei is recognised for his expertise in the area of Corporate M&A and Start-ups & Emerging Companies by various legal publications such as Chambers Asia-Pacific, The Legal 500 and IFLR1000. One client noted that "he understands how commercial deals work and understands the reality of those deals, he knows what you can and cannot do, and finds new ways and alternative methods to solve problems." He has been highlighted as an exceptional lawyer who "goes above and beyond to understand the needs and objectives of his clients."

Sin Wei trained and qualified as an English solicitor in London with a leading UK international firm. Prior to joining WongPartnership, Sin Wei worked with this leading UK international firm for about a decade in London, Beijing and Singapore. He also worked in Washington DC and Hong Kong S.A.R. with a leading U.S. international firm and a Magic Circle law firm.

Sin Wei graduated from the University of Birmingham, UK and obtained a Master of Laws from The University of Pennsylvania School of Law, U.S. He is admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of England & Wales and to the Singapore Bar.

Significant transactions that Sin Wei has been involved in include advising / acting for the following:

TripAdvisor in the restructuring of its investment in Eatigo International (the largest restaurant discount booking platform in ASEAN), in connection with the merger between Eatigo and FunNow (a Cayman Island company with major operations in Taiwan). Coinhako, Singapore's largest provider of digital wallet solutions for holding cryptocurrencies and digital tokens, on its corporate restructuring and fundraising. Centrality, the blockchain-based marketplace platform, in its token generation event which raised US$100 million in CENNZ tokens in six minutes. Pacific International Lines, PSA International, YCH Holdings and Kerry Logistics in the formation of a Singapore consortium vehicle Connectivity Solutions Pte Ltd, for the purpose of a joint project between Singapore and China known as "Sino-Singapore Chongqing Connectivity Solutions". Teleperformance as Singapore counsel in the acquisition of Intelenet Global Services, from Blackstone for US$1 billion. Expedia Inc. in its US$350 million minority investment in Traveloka Holding Limited, a leading South East Asian online travel company.
