John Sayers

Position

John specialises in fund finance, trade & export finance, commodity finance, renewable energy financing and general lending and advisory work. He advises banks, non-bank lenders and fund managers in both developed and developing markets.

John is involved with fund finance transactions involving funds and asset holding companies, working closely with our global offices across a broad range of investment asset classes. He has a particular focus on NAV/ ABL, hybrid and back leverage financings, the impact of the EU and UK securitisation regulation regimes and lending into developing markets jurisdictions.

John acts for lenders, liquidity providers and borrowers on structured trade finance and commodity finance transactions (including borrowing base financing, commodity repos and inventory monetisation), receivables financing, payment instruments, credit insurance and other credit enhancement techniques. He also advises on the interaction between ESG and trade finance, the impact of regulatory capital rules (CRR) and liquidity solutions such as repackaging techniques and the involvement of non-bank capital from the insurance and asset management sectors.

His work in the renewable energy sector includes advising on joint venture portfolio platforms, holdco financings, ECA finance and fully inflation-linked project financings.
