Career

Byung-Moon Jung is an attorney at Kim & Chang. He practices primarily in tax audit and dispute resolution.

Reflecting his varied experience as a judge, especially as a research judge (chief of tax team) at the Supreme Court and a presiding judge at Suwon District Court Administration Panel, Mr. Jung has developed practical experience and expertise in variety of tax issues and practices, including tax treaty issues, tax audit assistance, resolution of tax controversies, tax rulings, and legislative advisory. He also advises on tax incentives, indirect taxes, real estate taxation, and tax related issues on setting up and restructuring Korean operations of multinational companies.

As a leading member of the Tax Audit & Tax Dispute Resolution Practice, Mr. Jung works extensively with a broad range of local and overseas companies. He is an expert in advising on corporate tax, income tax, international tax, inheritance tax, and added tax. Reflecting his experience as a judge, Mr. Jung also specializes in resolution of tax controversies.

Mr. Jung also has experience providing foreign and domestic private equity funds with tax advice relating to mergers and acquisitions, transaction evaluation and structuring, due-diligence reviews, contract negotiations and documentations, restructuring, and dispositions.

Before joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Jung served in the judiciary for 19 years, first as a judge in district courts, and later as a judge in the appellate court, as well as a research judge (chief of tax litigation team) at the Supreme Court and as a presiding judge at Suwon District Court Administration Panel.

Mr. Jung received an LL.B. from Seoul National University in 1985, and attended the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea in 1987. He is admitted to the Korea bar.
