Stephen Bolster, Co‑Founder of Litica, has worked continuously in the insurance and litigation‑risk industries since 2005. Over the course of two decades, he has held senior underwriting roles across several of the most influential organisations in the sector, including a leading After‑the‑Event (ATE) insurer, the world’s largest litigation funder, and the funder recognised for supporting the greatest number of cases within the UK market. This breadth of professional experience has given Stephen a uniquely comprehensive perspective on the intersection of litigation finance and risk transfer.

Throughout his career, Stephen has underwritten a significant volume of commercial ATE policies spanning a wide variety of disputes, ranging from high‑value commercial litigation to complex group actions. His extensive underwriting portfolio, coupled with his substantial exposure to funded matters, has positioned him as one of the most experienced practitioners operating in these two highly specialised industries. His dual‑sector insight—combining deep knowledge of insurance‑based risk analysis with practical experience working alongside litigation funders—enables him to assess, structure and support cases with a level of sophistication that few practitioners can match.

Stephen is also a qualified solicitor. His legal background includes time spent in private practice at both a claimant‑focused boutique litigation firm and a major international law firm. This foundation in commercial disputes, combined with his subsequent career in underwriting and litigation finance, provides Stephen with a rare blend of legal, financial, and risk‑management expertise. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, underscoring his commitment to professional standards and continued development within the insurance profession.
