About

Litica is the world’s leading litigation and After-the-Event (ATE) insurance provider, with offices in London, Cologne and Sydney. Established in 2019, Litica was founded and is led by qualified lawyers and financial services professionals Stephen Bolster ACII and Steve Ruffle, with a clear mission: to deliver specialist, litigation-focused insurance solutions for claimants, litigation funders, in-house counsel and the world’s leading law firms.

In 2025, Litica was acquired by PIB Group, a strategic milestone that significantly strengthens the business and supports its continued global expansion.

Litica’s team includes the largest number of legally trained underwriters in the market, drawing experience from leading international law firms and major litigation funders. This depth of expertise has positioned Litica as a recognised market leader, consistently ranked by major legal and professional research organisations. Razi Mireskandari, former Managing Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution at Simons Muirhead & Burton, serves as Litica’s Non-Executive Director.

Litica has the largest insurance capacity in the UK litigation insurance market, having provided over GBP £2.5 billion in capacity across a broad range of litigation and arbitration risks. Matters insured span all major dispute types globally, from modest single claims to complex, multi-billion-dollar group actions and international arbitrations.

The firm underwrites on behalf of 13+ A-rated insurers across company and Lloyd’s markets and has the largest insurer panel in the sector. In 2024, Litica was approved as a Lloyd’s Coverholder with fully delegated authority to underwrite commercial ATE insurance, with its EU and Australian subsidiaries also approved as Lloyd’s Coverholders from 1 January 2025.

Beyond conventional adverse costs insurance, Litica has been instrumental in advancing the litigation insurance market. Its solutions include adverse costs cover for single claims and portfolios, capital protection insurance for litigation funders, and work-in-progress (WIP) insurance for law firms acting on a contingent basis—providing certainty, protection and innovation across the litigation lifecycle.
