Career
Marcelo Gerardo Vaca Guzmán Aparicio is a founding partner of Vaca Guzmán Siles Abogados and has held senior advisory and board-level positions in financial, industrial, commercial, and mining institutions in Bolivia and internationally. Throughout his career, he has advised leading multinational companies including Atlas Copco, Coca-Cola, Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), IBM, Rio Tinto Zinc, RGC Exploration (Renison Goldfields Corporation), Empresa Minera Barrosquira, Empresa Minera Himalaya, and Empresa Minera Unificada (EMUSA).
He has served as a member of the Council of Lawyers of the Bolivian Association of Private Banks (ASOBAN) and as a member of the Board of the Confederation of Private Entrepreneurs of Bolivia and Banco Boliviano Americano.
He also participated as part of the technical working team responsible for preparing the regulations implementing the Administrative Procedure Law within the Sectoral Regulation System (SIRESE), and acted as adviser and consultant to the National Council for Reform and Modernisation of the Judiciary of Bolivia, contributing to the preparation of draft legislation for the Law on Judicial Organisation and the Organic Law of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In addition, he has been a professor of regulatory law in the Master’s Programme in Economic Law at Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar and other universities in Bolivia.
He is also the author of several publications on corporate governance, financial institutions, and company law, including El Órgano de Administración en la Sociedad Anónima, La Importancia de las Instituciones Financieras, and El papel del Directorio en la Sociedad Anónima, published by Instituto de Empresa (Madrid), as well as El Registro de Comercio en Bolivia and Gobierno de la Empresa (Corporate Governance).
