Competition Consultant

Attorney Gülce Korkmaz Erdem, LL.M. is the external competition law consultant of Baş | Kaymaz Law Firm.

She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies at Leuphana University Lüneburg (Germany) as a PhD researcher and Doctoral Research Fellow funded by the Joachim Herz Foundation, with a deep analytical focus on digital market regulation and digital competition law across the EU, Germany, the UK, and Turkey. She completed her master's degree in competition and company law (including comparative study on Germany, Switzerland, and Turkey) at Bilkent University, Ankara.

With over 10 years of experience in Turkish and European competition law, Gülce advises on merger control filings, complex investigations and settlements before the Turkish Competition Authority, and general competition law matters. She also designs and delivers competition compliance programs for clients across various sectors.

She teaches EU Competition Law & Economics within two international postgraduate programs at the University of Hamburg.

Prior to joining Baş | Kaymaz, she gained significant competition law experience at several leading law firms. She began her career at the Competition and Regulation Department of a prominent full-service international law firm, advising clients in the energy, banking, telecommunications, and e-commerce sectors on competition compliance and regulatory matters. She then joined a leading competition law firm in Istanbul, where she represented major multinational clients (including Google, Philips, Booking.com, and Tesco) in on-site inspections, investigations, and competition litigation and prepared merger control filings for high-profile transactions such as Disney/Fox and Bayer/Monsanto. She subsequently served as senior associate and head of the competition law department at another boutique law firm, where she advised domestic and international clients on competition law matters, M&A transactions, and negotiated settlements before the Turkish Competition Authority.

Gülce has authored many academic publications, policy notes and blog essays on Turkish and EU competition law, digital market regulation, and merger control, and is a regular contributor to Concurrences e-Competitions Bulletin. She has delivered several national and international talks and conference presentations on competition law.
