Interview with…
Mesut Sinan Colak, Partner
Mesut Sinan Çolak explains how Asist Law Firm combines cross-border expertise with a commercial mindset to support international investors and fast-growing companies.
What do you see as the main points that differentiate Asist Law Firm from your competitors?
At Asist Law Firm, we differentiate ourselves through our strong cross-border capability and our commercial approach to legal work. We are not only focused on legal accuracy, but also on understanding the business objectives behind each matter.
Our presence in Istanbul, together with our connections in Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur, allows us to act as a bridge between Turkey, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. In addition, our ability to provide services in multiple languages, including Chinese, French and Arabic, makes communication much more efficient for international clients.
We also place strong emphasis on responsiveness and clarity. Clients expect fast and practical solutions, and we structure our team accordingly.
Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?
We expect strong growth in venture capital, M&A and restructuring work.
The main driver is the increasing number of cross-border investments, especially from Asian investors entering the Turkish market. At the same time, economic conditions are creating a growing need for restructuring and debt recovery services.
We also see continued growth in employment law, particularly for large-scale employers managing complex workforce structures.
What's the main change you've made in the firm that will benefit clients?
One of the most important changes we have made is strengthening our internal structure to better handle high-volume and complex matters.
We have created more specialized teams within the firm, especially in restructuring and employment litigation, which allows us to respond faster and more efficiently to client needs.
This has significantly improved both speed and consistency in our service.
Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?
Technology is playing an increasingly important role in how we work with clients.
We use digital tools to manage documents, track cases and improve communication. This allows us to provide faster updates and more transparent processes.
At the same time, many of our clients are technology companies, so we are also involved in advising on tech-driven business models, which further shapes the way we deliver legal services.
Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?
A recent example would be advising a fintech client on a complex receivables restructuring process.
We helped the client design a structured recovery plan, negotiate with multiple counterparties and initiate enforcement actions where necessary. At the same time, we ensured that business relationships were preserved where possible.
This approach allowed the client to recover a significant portion of its receivables while maintaining operational continuity.
Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms - where do you see the firm in three years’ time?
Clients are increasingly looking for law firms that can provide both stability and strategic direction.
In the next three years, we see Asist Law Firm further strengthening its position as a cross-border firm, particularly between Turkey, Europe and Asia. We also aim to expand our international network and deepen our expertise in investment and restructuring work.
Our goal is to remain a trusted partner for clients navigating complex and fast-changing markets.
