Founding Partner - Head of Intellectual Property

Hassane El Sheref is a Partner and Head of the Intellectual Property Department at Shield Advocates – Al Hawy & Hassane. With over a decade of experience, he is recognised as one of Egypt’s leading IP practitioners, advising local and international clients on complex intellectual property matters across Egypt and the wider MENA region.

His practice covers the full spectrum of intellectual property rights, including trademarks, patents, industrial designs, copyrights, software, trade secrets, and plant varieties. Hassane regularly advises on the development, protection, enforcement, and commercialisation of IP assets, as well as anti-counterfeiting strategies, unfair competition disputes, and cross-border IP portfolio management.

He has extensive experience representing clients before administrative and judicial authorities and is recognised for his strategic and commercially driven approach in high-stakes disputes, enforcement actions, and negotiated settlements.

In addition to his practice, Hassane plays an active role within the international IP community. He serves as Co-Chair of INTA’s Global Advisory Council – Middle East and is a member of the International Trademark Association’s Anti-Counterfeiting Committee. He is also regularly involved in regional IP policy discussions, leadership initiatives, and industry training programmes aimed at strengthening IP protection frameworks in Egypt and the wider region.
