Dr. Tarık Güleryüz, Founding Partner

Our Founding Partner Dr. Tarık Güleryüz explains how the firm is adapting to clients’ changing needs)   What do you see as the main points that differentiate [law firm name] from your competitors? We act as long-term strategic partners for our clients as we do not only provide legal perspective but also business perspective. By utilizing structured case management and transparent reporting, we provide our clients with data-driven updates and maximum efficiency. This transparency builds the deep trust necessary to align our legal strategies with our clients’ broader commercial objectives. One of the defining characteristics of our practice is setting deep strategy approach. Our partners remain directly involved in client matters as active practitioners rather than acting solely in supervisory roles. This ensures that clients—particularly in high-stakes Banking & Finance and Dispute Resolution—work closely with lawyers who combine academic depth with hands-on legal execution.   Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that? We anticipate significant growth in Banking and Finance projects and Dispute Resolution. The primary driver is the current global and local economic climate, which necessitates sophisticated restructuring and the resolution of complex cross-border disputes. As Turkish businesses continue to expand globally, we see a rise in multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes that require the specialized handling of international arbitration rules where our team has significant experience.   What's the main change you've made in the firm that will benefit clients? One of the most significant changes we have implemented is the strategic restructuring of our office into two specialized main departments: Banking & Finance and Dispute Resolution. While these operate as distinct pillars to ensure deep technical specialization, we have fostered a culture of cross-departmental cooperation. This allows our Banking & Finance team to draft agreements with the "litigator’s foresight," anticipating potential conflicts before they arise, while our Dispute Resolution team draws on specific financial know-how to handle complex banking litigation. We have also significantly strengthened our international reach. As a member of Eurojuris International, we have expanded our global network, allowing us to provide seamless legal support for cross-border transactions and international arbitration mandates. This combination of a systematic, specialized internal structure and a robust international partnership ensures that our clients receive focused, high-quality service with a truly global perspective.   Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them? Technology has fundamentally reshaped the legal services we provide at Güleryüz. By integrating faster, richer, and more secure systems into our daily operations, we have enhanced both our internal efficiency and our external client interactions. Our firm has been proactively investing in and utilizing AI-powered legal tools internally; leveraging these developments increases the overall quality of our work, allowing our team to move beyond administrative tasks and focus on our cases with a more high-level strategic mindset. Ultimately, technology allows us to combine operational efficiency with deep strategic thinking. This enables us to deliver faster and more cost-effective legal services without compromising the academic rigor and quality that our clients expect from us.   Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business? We recently represented a global leader in its sector during a high-stakes ICC Arbitration involving a claim of approximately USD 90,000,000.00. The dispute arose from a complex Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) following a major acquisition in Türkiye, with the core of the conflict centered on earn-out payments and alleged material breaches. Our involvement began post-initiation, where we added immediate value through a rigorous "legal engineering" of the case. By conducting a deep-dive analysis of several years of ancillary documentation and financial records, we were able to substantiate a robust defense and successfully formulate significant counterclaims. This strategic restructuring transformed what was initially a defensive position into a proactive pursuit of our client’s commercial rights. Beyond the formal arbitration strategy, we provided strategic direction by exploring amicable resolution and settlement negotiations in parallel with the proceedings. This allowed us to mitigate substantial financial risk while maintaining the strongest possible legal standing for the upcoming hearings. Ultimately, our involvement turned a high-risk liability into a structured, data-driven legal strategy that secured the client's long-term interests in the region.   Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms - where do you see the firm in three years’ time? Clients today are moving away from purely transactional legal services toward partnerships that offer genuine stability and long-term strategic foresight. In an era of economic and regulatory volatility, businesses require a firm that understands their entire lifecycle—from the technical precision needed in a Banking & Finance mandate to the resilience required in multi-year Dispute Resolution. Our vision for Güleryüz over the next three years is therefore not centered on rapid, impersonal expansion. Instead, we are committed to remaining a focused firm where direct partner involvement, strategic thinking, and close client relationships remain the core of everything we do. We believe that maintaining this specialized structure is the only way to ensure the high-level engagement our clients expect. In three years’ time, I see our firm as the leading firm in the region for high-stakes, complex disputes and sophisticated financial matters. We aim to be the definitive "bridge" for international investors and financial institutions operating in the Turkish market.
