Career

Richard Menaker has been a member of the New York Bar since 1975. He started his career as an associate of Sullivan & Cromwell before co-founding Menaker & Herrmann in 1983. He joined Offit Kurman, P.A., in April 2018. Richard concentrates in commercial litigation, dispute resolution and employment law counseling. He has represented business clients in dozens of cases in federal and state courts around the country at the trial and appellate levels, in domestic and international arbitrations and in federal and state regulatory proceedings.

He has written on litigation procedures and on American and English constitutional history. A past Chair of the Committee on Legal History of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, he has organized and moderated public programs at the Association and the New-York Historical Society on such subjects as federalism, the law practice of Alexander Hamilton, the Amistad case, Abraham Lincoln and civil rights and the political legacy of Thomas Jefferson.

Richard is a member of the American, New York State and New York City Bar Associations, as well as the Federal Bar Council. He was for over twenty years a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, Northeast Region, which offers continuing legal education for trial lawyers. He teaches construction industry dispute resolution in advanced professional practice courses for architecture students at Columbia University and the Pratt Institute. He is also a past officer and director of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley and continues to provide pro bono representation for indigent clients through that organization.
