Alistair Myles
Alistair has over 18 years of experience working in the frontline of family law, including cases that have re-shaped and progressed the law. Among his many reported cases are Jones v Jones on the treatment of non-matrimonial assets on divorce, and the Court of Appeal case of Haley v Haley which changed the standard for challenging family arbitration awards to align with that applied to court judgments.
His work portfolio spans both financial and children matters, often closely intertwined, and typically for HNW and UHNW clients. He is renowned for his holistic approach to divorce and relationship breakdown, believing that clients achieve better outcomes when financial and children issues are addressed together. As co-founder and name partner of Ribet Myles, this integrated approach has become a defining feature of the firm, setting it apart from competitors who typically assign separate teams to cover these different aspects.
His work on financial remedies matters focusses on the most high-value and complex, typically involving international elements and sophisticated asset structures. He is also famous for his groundbreaking work on pre- and post-nuptial agreements. His children work again focusses on the most complex and international, for example applications for a parent to move abroad with their children, also day-to-day arrangements for children post-separation and divorce, often where one parent is abroad – and particularly involving knock-on financial implications.
He is a member of Resolution and the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA) and he volunteers with the BPP Family Law Advice Clinic, providing practical and strategic guidance and support to student advisors.
Alistair also has a star rating in the Citywealth Leaders List, (the leading peer- and client-reviewed listing of private wealth management professionals), recognised as one of the top 20 family and matrimonial lawyers in the UK and one of Citywealth’s 100 ‘Future Leaders’. He is also recommended in the Spear’s 500 listing of expert advisers and service-providers for (U)HNWs and is listed in Doyle’s Law Guide as a Leading Family & Divorce Lawyer.
