Mexico > Energy and natural resources Tier 4

The highly specialised energy practice at LHO is admired by clients for its ‘depth of analysis, business focus and agile solutions’ and has rapidly established itself as a solid advisor on all types of energy projects in Mexico and on soft-landing in the country for international companies. In the last few years the practice has supported its clients through a challenging period for private investment in the Mexican energy sector, primarily finding itself active on matters including permitting, litigation, and arbitration with private counterparties and authorities. Managing partner Luis Miguel Ramírez Ruggeberg has a dedicated energy and environmental law practice and is particularly noted in the oil and gas sector as an advisor to multinational companies and international law firms. Erik del Rio is a key contact for energy project structuring and financing, especially those with cross-border aspects; and Luis Enrique Rangel de la Peza primarily assists on natural resources projects, investments, acquisitions, joint ventures and restructuring. Associate Jimena Zubiaga is active in the sector and has experience on the corporate and project development aspects of projects in the sector, particularly in establishing structures for private equity-sponsored natural resource ventures.

Mexico > Environment Tier 4

Originating from the 2018 merger of Ramírez Vazquez Abogados and a spin off from the local Mexican office of ONTIER México, LHO has successfully built on its expertise in the renewable energy segment to develop an environmental practice of note. The 10-strong team handles both advisory work regarding regulatory matters and environmental litigation, and is perhaps best known for its establishment and structuring of an 'eco-zone' in Cuernavaca's historical centre; it also has a niche specialisation advising environmental start-ups and assisting them through their acceleration growth stage. More broadly, the team advises on the environmental aspects of project development, including matters related to permits, authorisations, compliance and litigation. It is co-led by managing partner Luis Miguel Ramírez, who focuses on renewable energy and environmental matters related to sustainability programs; and Luis Enrique Rangel, whose experience is centred on project finance, natural resources, transactional matters, joint ventures and restructuring. Head of the firm’s office in Morelos, associate Jimena Arazá has experience on project development matters – particularly the establishment of structures for natural resources ventures.
