Career
As the head of Estrella’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, Maité Medero serves as a trusted advisor to some of the Puerto Rico’s largest companies where she regularly advises their human resources leadership and teams to ensure compliance with workplace laws. Maité advises companies of all sizes on the day-to-day challenges of managing their employees and resolving business issues and the unique nuances of doing business in Puerto Rico.
She offers legal guidance on matters ranging from employee hiring, discipline, termination, mandatory protocols and leaves, trainings, investigations and EEOC compliance. She has a deep understanding of both Federal and Puerto Rico labor and employment law and litigation, and significant experience working with both private industry and the public sector clients. Additionally, she is a seasoned litigator, handling cases involving discrimination, disability, wrongful termination, and wage and hour disputes.
She works with employers in a wide range of industries and has specific experience working with some of the largest retailers in the world as they establish and operate a presence or franchise in Puerto Rico. Whether clients are established entities seeking expansion into Puerto Rico or newly emerging companies, Maité provides tailored guidance and practical strategies that are both proactive and preventative.
Maité’s years of experience has also made her a sought-after speaker and trainer in human resources matters and a recognized leader in the industry. She is also involved in professional organizations such the Association of Human Resources Professionals, which she presided in 2019.
Maité received her J.D. and her LLM in Business Law from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law.
