Chinese Patent Attorney, Patent Engineer

Zhenyu Xu (徐震宇)is a qualified Chinese patent attorney and has been part of BDPE’s patent attorney and attorney-at-law team since June 2025. He has been working in the field of intellectual property since 2017.

His technical areas of expertise include mechanical engineering, automotive technology, electrical engineering, artificial intelligence and robotics.

Before joining BDPE, he worked as Patent Counsel at POSITEC and SIEMENS. In these roles at leading global technology companies, he gained extensive experience and expertise in patent prosecution, particularly in drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), as well as in IP risk management, particularly in conducting freedom-to-operate analyses for international projects.

At BDPE, he supports our German and European patent attorneys in advising clients on all aspects of intellectual property relating to patent disputes in Germany and Europe, with a particular focus on patent litigation.

He joined BDPE in 2025 as a patent engineer and is currently undergoing training to qualify as a European Patent Attorney.

He holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree (B.Eng. and M.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering from Soochow University in China. He also holds an LL.M. in International Studies in Intellectual Property Law and Data Law from Technische Universität Dresden in Germany. During his legal studies, he specialized in European patent law, with a particular focus on claim construction before the European Patent Office (EPO).
