Rebecca Birkby

Rebecca is a Partner in the Commercial Litigation team at Tyr. Rebecca has significant experience in complex, high value commercial litigation with particular expertise in financial and professional disputes, shareholder disputes and civil fraud. She has experience of litigating multi-jurisdictional cases before the English High Court and Court of Appeal and has been involved in several cases that have been reported and attracted press attention. Rebecca acts for a wide range of clients including high net worth individuals, directors, large multinational corporates, private equity firms and hedge funds over a variety of industry sectors.

Chris Blantern

Chris has over 20 years experience and leads the Corporate team at Tyr. Chris acts for a range of clients from small to medium sized enterprises through to large national public and private companies. He advises on a wide range of transactions including acquisitions and disposals (of both shares and assets), management buy-outs and buy-ins, joint ventures, shareholder and partnership agreements, refinancing and reorganisations as well as providing general corporate advice. Chris is recognised as a trusted adviser to his clients and is renowned for his ability to get deals done.

Giles Clegg

Giles is a highly experienced corporate Partner. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, management buy-outs, group reorganisations, joint ventures and shareholder disputes. He has over a decade of experience acting for private equity-backed acquisitive companies in relation to portfolio acquisitions and disposals.  He is well known in the Yorkshire corporate finance market for his experience and approachable style and excellent client service. Giles is ranked as Recommended Lawyer in the 2027 guide. David Cook

David is a Partner in the Commercial Litigation team at Tyr. David advises on a wide range of high-value complex commercial disputes and risk management issues, with specialist experience in disputes involving IT, pensions and trusts, financial services, and corporate issues.  He frequently advises on international disputes, including in respect of supply chain issues and contract terminations.  David has acted for clients in several high profile reported cases in both the High Court and Appellate Courts, as well as having an excellent track record of successfully resolving disputes via mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.  He acts for a wide range of clients from public companies to private individuals across a range of sectors, including:  Retail and Consumer, Digital, Energy and Utilities, Transport, and Financial Services.

Rebecca Coser

Rebecca is a Senior Associate within the Sport team at Tyr. Rebecca supports Alistair McHenry, Partner and Head of Sport, on various high-level matters across a multitude of sports with a focus on sport integrity issues, disciplinary and dispute resolution. Rebecca acts on behalf of international sport integrity agencies, sporting clubs (including Premier League football clubs) and high-profile athletes. Rebecca’s experience includes proceedings before the International Paralympic Committee Board of Appeal of Classification, the International Table Tennis Federation Tribunal, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Anti-Corruption Hearing Officers and Rugby Football Union Independent Appeal Panels.

Martin Cox

Martin is a Partner in the Commercial Litigation team, based in Tyr’s Bristol office. He specialises in high-value and complex commercial disputes, often with a cross-border element. He has wide experience in professional negligence claims (including against barristers, solicitors, insurance brokers, financial advisors, and investment advisors), breach of contract, fraud and misrepresentation.

Luisa D\'Alessandro

Luisa joined Tyr in February 2021 to establish the firm’s commercial and IT practice.  She is a commercial and IT contracts specialist with more than twenty years of experience in her chosen field.  Luisa deals with a range of commercial contract work including agency, distribution, franchising, outsourcing and supply and purchase agreements.  She also has significant experience in data protection law and e-commerce work and has a particular interest in supporting clients in the IT arena, dealing with matters such as software licensing models, IT system purchase and supply arrangements, reseller agreements and service level agreements.   Other sectors of experience include manufacturing, logistics, leisure and retail, and professional services. Clients range from SMEs to large corporates including household name organisations and listed companies.  She also deals with matters involving overseas aspects such as transborder data flows and international supply contracts.

Matthew Fidler

Matthew is a Founding Partner and Head of the Commercial Litigation team at Tyr. Matthew specialises in conflict referral work with particular experience of advising on complex and high value matters relating to investor disputes, director/officer misfeasance, professional negligence and civil fraud. Matthew also has significant experience of high-profile group litigation including private damages actions for breach of competition law and investment miss-selling .

Ashley Jaques

Ashley joined Tyr as a Partner in September 2021 to establish the Business Restructuring team.  Ashley specialises in director advisory, transactional and property finance matters acting for both bridging lenders and borrowers. Ashley’s recent experience has involved advising several lenders securitising new facilities to borrowers; advising directors of various companies in financial difficulty in connection with directors’ duties; advising a lender on their enforcement options against directors suspected of distributing funds outside of the security provided; advising a lender on the appointment of receivers over a significant portfolio of commercial properties; and advising directors of their rights following the failure of customers to pay for services provided. Ashley acts for insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, companies, directors, property agents and turnaround professionals from across the country on all aspects of corporate recovery and restructuring work.

Dean Jowett

Dean has over 20 years’ experience in all aspects of commercial property but specialises in residential and commercial development work and leads the team at Tyr. He acts for some of the UK’s leading national and regional housebuilders and has a wealth of experience in advising on complex strategic land options and site assembly issues. He is also regularly asked to act for landowners to sell land for development as they value the insight he can provide from his experience of acting for developers. Dean works closely with his clients and is renowned for being deal focussed, straight talking and pragmatic.

Alistair Kennedy

Alistair is a member of the Commercial Litigation team at Tyr and was a founding member of the firm in 2019. Alistair specialises in complex commercial litigation. His clients range from major corporates to high net worth individuals. He has dealt with many high value claims in the High Court and Appeal Courts, including several cases that have been reported and attracted press attention. Alistair has particular experience of claims related to financial services and disputes involving allegations of fraud. He has also dealt with many complex professional negligence claims, especially in relation to unsatisfactory investment, tax or legal advice. Alistair's cases often involve an international element. He is experienced in arbitration.

Darren Kidd

Darren is a Partner in Tyr’s Commercial Litigation team specialising in high value and complex disputes. He has experience across a broad range of domestic and international matters, including in banking / financial services, fraud, insolvency, professional negligence and tax. Darren has acted for a variety of clients, including high net worth individuals, airlines, banks, financial authorities, hedge funds, insolvency practitioners, insurance companies, law firms, telecommunications companies and trustees.

Alistair McHenry

Tyr's Sport practice is led by partner Alistair McHenry. Alistair has extensive experience in all aspects of sports law with a particular focus on contentious integrity, disciplinary and regulatory work. He advises on disputes at the very highest levels including for International Integrity Agencies, National Governing Bodies, athletes and Premier League Clubs. Alistair is also a trusted decision maker in sport, regularly chairing panels adjudicating on disputes for UK Athletics, the Lawn Tennis Association and Table Tennis England in selection, disciplinary and safeguarding matters.

Phil Morrison

Phil Morrison is an experienced dual qualified (Scotland and England) Construction lawyer. His experience spans over 25 years across both private practice and in-house roles. He provides contentious and non-contentious commercial advice including procurement, development agreements, building contracts, sub-contracts, professional team appointments and collateral warranties. He works closely with his commercial property colleagues providing construction related input into their transactions and documentation. Phil advises clients in contentious matters representing parties in mediation, adjudication, arbitration and the Technology and Construction Courts. These contentious issues are often complex, involving a number of parties in multi million pound claims across different jurisdictions. Phil has developed an expertise in advising clients on the details and impact on the construction industry by the Building Safety Act 2022.

Sallyanne Phillips

Sallyanne is a Legal Director at Tyr. She joined the firm in early 2021 after training and practicing at another leading commercial law firm. Sallyanne works across both the Property Litigation and Commercial Litigation teams, providing strategic and commercial legal advice to a wide client base. Sallyanne deals with an array of disputes for individuals and businesses, and deals with disputes ranging from breach of contract, shareholder/director disputes including unfair prejudice claims, negligence claims and disputes involving property as well as those with an insolvency angle.

Laura Salvati

Laura is a Partner and Head of the Property Litigation team. Laura’s client base includes property investors and developers, large institutional landlords, national retailers, corporate occupiers and owner managed businesses, many of which are household names. Laura is experienced in all aspects of property related disputes (both commercial and residential) and has particular expertise in portfolio management including unopposed and opposed lease renewals, vacant possession and exit strategies, dilapidations claims and all aspects of covenant enforcement.

Sarah Temple

Sarah joined Tyr as a Partner in the Commercial Property team in July 2022. She brings over 20 years experience to the team and specialises in complex freehold and leasehold transactions for investors and corporate occupiers. Sarah has a portfolio of clients for whom she has provided legal advice for many years. This portfolio is made up from a wide spectrum of clients including financial institutions, portfolio landlords and sector specialist occupiers, including retailers and educational and charitable organisations. Sarah has, whilst maintaining a busy full time practice, obtained a distinction in a Project Management Masters Degree at Leeds Beckett University to further enhance the value that she can give to her clients.

Eleanor Tordoff

Eleanor is an Associate within the Property Litigation team at Tyr. Eleanor specialises in a variety of property disputes including: dilapidations, enfranchisement and lease extensions, commercial lease renewals, forfeiture, break options and landlord and tenant nuisance claims. Due to Eleanor’s route into law, she has the benefit of 8 years’ Property Litigation experience which brings knowledge and commercial pragmatism beyond her 4 years PQE.

Marcus Watson

Marcus is a Partner in Tyr's Commercial Property team. Marcus is particularly experienced in commercial and residential development work, acquisitions and disposals and property finance matters. Marcus' recent experience includes acting on strategic land acquisitions for top 10 national housebuilders on sites throughout the UK, portfolio management work and property finance deals for both banks and borrowers. Marcus also has extensive experience of all aspects of landlord and tenant work including portfolio management for a number of large corporate occupiers. Marcus is pragmatic and commercial and enables his clients to achieve their desired outcomes quickly and effectively.

Amy Woodfine

Amy is a corporate partner with almost 20 years' experience advising on mid-market M&A, investments and corporate reorganisations. She acts for founder-led and owner-managed businesses as well as private equity-backed groups and larger corporates, on deals up to and exceeding £100m, both domestic and cross-border. Her practice focuses particularly on technology and digital, wealth management and insurance broking. Her work includes both buy and sell-side M&A, venture capital and private equity investment from pre-seed through to Series A, B, C and beyond, buy-and-build and consolidation strategies, shareholder arrangements, and group reorganisations and solvent restructurings. She also advises companies, directors and shareholders on strategy.

Matthew Yates

Matthew is a Partner and leads Tyr's Employment team. Matthew has over 20 years’ experience as a specialist employment solicitor advising a wide range of companies, in various sectors and jurisdictions, from PLCs to SMEs as well as senior individuals. Matthew’s particularly noteable experience includes: Acting for ICI in the reported case of Hagen & 440 others v ICI & others. Acting for various national hauliers and logistics businesses in defending all types of tribunal claims and advising on TUPE and other employment issues. Advising on a worldwide restrictive covenant for a well-known entertainer. Advising on potential industrial action which could have resulted in a national fuel strike. Matthew has substantial experience in all aspects of employment law and provides solutions and advice on a range of employment matters, including business restructuring, TUPE and collective consultation, restrictive covenants, managing trade union relations, business acquisitions and disposals, defending all types of Employment Tribunal claims and advising on executive severance (for both companies and individuals). Matthew conducts his own advocacy before the Employment Tribunal and is an experienced training presenter.
