The firm: Having been established in Ankara by our founder Mehmet Ali Köksal, in September 2005, Köksal & Partners moved its headquarters to Istanbul in September 2011 and commenced operations in Istanbul. In September 2015, the firm was registered to the Istanbul Bar Association, under the name Köksal-Özdamar Attorney Partnership. Köksal & Partners follows and uses the latest technology in offering services to its clients, adhering to the Attorneys’ Law and Attorneys’ Code of Professional Conduct. All files in our office are stored electronically, and all members of our legal team are able to work in a mobile and location-independent manner, every day of the week and at any time of the day. Our corporate clients for our consulting services are able to track the progress of their respective cases and businesses electronically. We offer our clients legal consulting services, litigation services, registration services for trademarks, patents and other intellectual property, personal data protection law, IT law and security training services, as well as online reputation management services, including the removal of online content. Notable cases


  • Our Office had represented YHGV (Foundation for Development of Supreme Court Services) in a case against private institution, in which we have requested the cancellation of a contract regarding citizens’ and lawyers’ paid access to the Court of Cassation’s decisions. The case has been settled in favour of YHGV whom we represent.
  • We represent KentKart, which is one of the leading electronic ticket and smart card companies in Turkey. KentKart has been the contractor of the smart card system used in the public transportation of İzmir. In the tender of 2015, the project was assigned to a different company, which has failed to take over and maintain the complex and sophisticated smart card system. As a consequence, İzmir’s public transportation system has collapsed, stirring up a public debate over the national news. The Metropolitan Municipality filed a series of commercial and complaint cases against our client claiming that there has been an interference with the system caused by our Client. All cases are still pending and our firm is handling the entire dispute for Kentkart.
  • A lawsuit was filed against our Client Flechs Mobile Solutions, alleging that the Client unlawfully copied a software of the plaintiff. The case was assigned to our offices while the developments were against the Client. Following our participation to the case, the verdict against the Client is reversed by the Supreme Court. Following the expert examination upon source codes, now our Client has the advantage for the case.
  • One of our Clients, who is an academic in one of the most reputable universities in Turkey, has been defrauded by a sophisticated phone scam. Throughout the trial, we have successfully identified the criminals using banking accounts and other evidences, and ensured that the offenders are convicted with aggravated fraud. This case was one of the rare examples for these kind of crimes committed in Turkey, in a way that the criminals were accurately identified.
  • One of our Clients, having several on-line services in regard to its practice area, have pending cases pertaining to crypto-currencies and security of its cloud services. Mentioned cases have importance as they are the first examples of the disputes regarding crypto-currency and Law on the Protection of Personal Data.

Managing Partner Mehmet Ali Köksal shares his thoughts on the current and future state of legal profession in Turkey and his firm’s projections.

What do you see as the main points that differentiate KOKSAL & PARTNERS from your competitors?

I believe that understanding our clients’ business processes and providing tailored solutions for their needs set us apart from our competitors. Instead of just listing the possibilities, we always take the extra step and steer our clients to the right solution.

Which practises do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?

In the upcoming 12 months, the field of data protection will continue to expand. Fintech will also become a major business area. Robotics and Big Data’s legal aspects will gain importance but it will probably take some time before they become established legal areas.

What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit clients?

Simply put, it’s to evolve and stay up to date. We are doing our best to provide our services in line with modern technology. In this sense, our latest innovation was to go beyond the “remote access” and achieve the “remote working” principle. It turns out that such work routine a huge source of motivation for our team.

Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?

We truly and deeply take advantage of technology in our business. This is how we manage to let our team come up with genuine and disruptive ideas and to turn our focus to new ideas, without sacrificing our corporate identity.

Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?

Before it was even a conversation piece in our country, we have presented a detailed report to our client, Notaries Union of Turkey (“Union”), stating that secure/registered e-mail services (known as

KEP in Turkey) will trigger a massive change and that the Union must get ready for this shift. As part of our guiding efforts, we have helped our client establish a solution provider company named TNB-Technology.

Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms? – where do you see the firm in three years time?

Clients are looking for two things from their law firms: Stability and special attention to their business. Besides, clients expect that we exceed their level in terms of development.

In three to five years, we are aiming to rank among the top 3 law firms in Turkey.
