Nicolas Bouckaert

Nicolas Bouckaert

Nicolas is a partner in our Paris office. He is regularly instructed in complex and international disputes, and acts for leading insurers and reinsurers, brokers, major policyholders and manufacturers. Nicolas' practice includes coverage disputes (insurance and reinsurance), defence work, subrogation claims and general commercial litigation which spans several key industry sectors (aerospace, transport, construction, real estate, tourism, finance and manufacturing), with a particular focus on product and professional liability. Nicolas has significant experience of complex court-appointed technical investigations, specifically relating to industrial risks.
Aurélia Cadain

Aurélia Cadain

Aurélia Cadain is a founding Partner of Kennedys' Paris office, and an insurance specialist with extensive expertise in complex litigation matters of transport law, industrial risk, insurance and product liability,  and healthcare products. Aurélia acts for global insurers and assists well-known airline companies both in their day-to-day operations and important litigations. She also regularly acts for pharmaceutical companies. Aurélia's practice includes coverage disputes, defence work, subrogation claims. which spans several key industry sectors (aerospace, transport, tourism, manufacturing, health industry and medical malpractice) with a particular focus on product liability. She has developed particular experience in complex expert-appraisal proceedings including in aviation and marine matters, and industrial risk. Aurélia also regularly advises on litigating complex transport claims (in aviation, marine, road and rail) involving individuals and carried goods. Aurélia is the current contributor to the French chapter for GTDT: Aviation Liability and co-contributor to the French chapter for GTDT: Insurance and to the Aviation Law Review.

Paulo is a Partner and head of Kennedys Lisbon office, he is qualified in Portugal since 1989. Paulo is a highly experienced non litigation, litigation and arbitration lawyer, advises and represents local and international insureres and reinsurers, banks, financial institutions and various companies. Paulo is specialized in civil and professional liability, clinical negligence, commercial and corporate law; his experience includes dealing with major catastrophic claims; drafting policy wordings for various international insurers and reinsurers in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Angola; advising a telecommunication group on corporate and contract matters.
Ignacio Figuerol

Ignacio Figuerol

Ignacio is the Managing Partner of Kennedys' office in Spain. He has extensive experience advising Spanish and foreign insurers and re-insurers in domestic and international insurance litigation and arbitration and non-contentious insurance in the D&O, financial institutions and professional indemnity fields, in Spain and Latin America. Ignacio has handled major cases involving public offering of securities, directors and officers, financial institutions, auditors, insurance brokers, accountants and lawyers. His experience also covers a wide range of reinsurance disputes. He has recently advised insurers in connection with the few class actions in the US against Spanish companies. His practice also includes drafting and adapting insurance policies and reinsurance contracts to Spanish law. Ignacio  regularly speaks at seminars and conferences on directors and officers and professional indemnity insurance both in Spain and in the London market. Ignacio has also written several insurance-related articles and books (co-author of the books “Ley de Contrato de Seguro: Jurisprudencia comentada” and “Directors´ Liability and Indemnification”).
Alicia Fole

Alicia Fole

Alicia, Senior Associate in Kennedys' office in Madrid,  is an expert in Civil Liability, specialising in casualty, PI (in particular, medical malpractice, architects, lawyers and court clerks, and engineers) and product liability. Skilled in the art of negotiation and practised in court appearances, she handles both contentious and non-contentious matters for local and international insurers. She is experienced in acting as TPA for London Market insurers, international insurance companies and MGAs that underwrite policies in Spain, managing the bordereaux and handling the claims from their receipt to their final resolution including the assessment on coverage and the insured’s and/or the insurer’s defence. Alicia frequently handles the revision, interpretation and adaptation of insurance policies to Spanish law. Being a dual qualified lawyer allows her a wider global vision of the policies, as she is aware of the intricacies of the law both in Spain and in England and Wales. As part of her activity, Alicia is a regular speaker at local and international seminars to discuss insurance trends and to explain the Spanish legal system to foreign underwriters and claims managers, as well as helping to promote and develop diversity and inclusion in the insurance market.

Ricardo Garrido

Ricardo acts for major national and international insurance companies in both contentious and non-contentious matters. He specialises in construction and engineering liability, product liability, energy and environmental. He has been involved in several high profile cases defending insurers and their insureds and has substantial tribunal experience. He also drafts and adapts insurance policies to Spanish law. Ricardo is experienced in international issues and has been particularly active in several jurisdictions in Latin America.
Sally Hancock

Sally Hancock

Sally is a partner and leads the Manchester SHE regulatory team as well as heading up the natinoal SHE team at BLM. She has over 20 years’ experience advising and representing corporate clients, individuals and public bodies through direct nominations as well as insurer and broker instructions. She specialises in advising and representing companies and individuals involved in complex police and regulatory body investigations and prosecutions following serious and fatal incidents.  She also regularly represents clients at inquests, including Article 2 and jury inquests.  Sally takes a proactive and strategic approach and carries out her own investigations and advocacy, ensuring a close relationship with each of her clients. Her advice extends from initial crisis management to the ongoing support required in the aftermath of an incident including strategy, managing a regulatory body investigation, interviews under caution, responding to enforcement notices and reputation management. Sally’s role in leading the national SHE group is pivotal to the strategic developments of the BLM national SHE practice.  She has been described in the Legal 500 as having ‘great judgement and communications skills’; ‘a good eye for detail’ and being ‘gentle but firm in cases involving fatalities’. Sally is an accomplished speaker at national and trade SHE events and regularly delivers bespoke training across a broad spectrum of regulatory and inquest topics, including crisis management, sentencing, corporate manslaughter and directors in the dock.
José Pellicer

José Pellicer

Jose is a Legal Director and Head of Marine in Kennedys' office in Madrid. His practice areas include marine and ports, contracts, insurance and reinsurance, regulation, public liability, financing, aviation and regulatory defence. Jose is an expert in marine, logistics and ports, handling matters for ship owners, shipyards, marine insurers and reinsurers and port authorities. He is experienced in drafting contracts, dispute resolution, litigation, recovery actions and policy interpretation and handles both contentious and non-contentious cases. Jose regularly writes for publications and is a lecturer for the Master's Degree in Shipping Business and Martina Law Program, which is a joint program between the Spanish Maritime Institute and the Comillas Pontifical University.

Paula Petit

Paula, Senior Associate in Kennedys' office in Madrid, handles contentious and non-contentious matters for local and international insurers and is specialized in matters with cross-border elements. She is skilled in the art of negotiation and Court appearances. Her practice areas include marine, transport & logistics, aviation, professional indemnity and property, energy & construction. She has experience in litigation within judicial and arbitration proceedings, negotiation, recovery actions and coverage advice, assisting both insurers and insureds as necessary. She also handles the revision, interpretation and adaptation of insurance policies to Spanish law. Paula handles the management of these claims from their receipt to final judgment and everything in between, including handling the borderaux and acting as TPA.

Isidoro Ugena

Isidoro is an expert litigator and negotiator; handling matters for both local and London Market insurers and reinsurers. He advises domestic and foreign insurance and reinsurance companies on Professional Indemnity, Construction, Property and Casualty cases, including both contentious and non-contentious matters. Isidoro has significant experience in the monitoring of court proceedings and acting as appointed counsel, protecting the interests of our clients, and also defending clients’ insureds in claims and lawsuits filed against them. He is an expert in coverage advice and policy wording as well as the analysis and evaluation of damages.
