Career
Aamal Al Abbasi is the Managing Partner of Newton Legal. She has a strong
litigation, real estate, corporate and commercial practice. She works closely
with the Office of H.R.H. Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown
Prince and Prime Minister, as she handles various legal matters for the
Prime Minister’s Office including reviewing the structure of strategic
projects from a legal perspective and numerous agreements with
international parties.
She has advised numerous local and international entities in relation to
Bahrain law with particular emphasis on the Commercial Companies Law,
Civil Code, Reorganisation and Bankruptcy Law, Law of Commerce and the
Civil & Commercial Procedures Law.
Aamal led the first reorganization case in the Kingdom of Bahrain under the
new Reorganisation and Bankruptcy Law. Represented Garmco in court-led
reorganisation proceedings, including before the Court of Cassation, where
she successfully challenged the decision of the Court of Appeal to reject
Garmco’s request to commence court-led reorganisation proceedings.
In addition, she has and continues to handle numerous cases before the
Civil and Commercial Courts of Bahrain including cases filed before the
Bahrain Chamber for Disputes Resolution (BCDR-AAA).
She advised The Bahrain Petroleum Company BSC(C) (“Bapco”) from a
Bahrain law perspective on the financing of the Bapco Modernisation
Programme, a USD6.9 billion project involving 26 financial institutions.
Aamal has been appointed as a legal adviser in a number of internal
governmental committees formed to provide appropriate solutions to
specific legal issues and potential projects. Highly involved in drafting
numerous legal instruments along with drafting various policies for the
Government of Bahrain.
She taught the Bahrain Commercial Companies Law at the University of
Bahrain for three years along with the Founding Partner of Newton Legal.
Taught the Bahrain Commercial Companies Law at the Judicial and Legal
Studies Institute.
Aamal has participated in events and publications as a representative of the
legal sector in Bahrain.
Aamal led the team responsible for all of the Sputnik V, AstraZeneca, Pfizer
and Sinopharm vaccine supply agreements in addition to other drug
purchase and supply agreements on behalf of the Government of Bahrain.

2022: The Prince Salman bin Hamad Medal for Medical Merit granted by His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al
Khalifa.
2024: Received a Medal from His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa.
