Jadek & Pensa

Slovenia > Leading firms Tier 1

Jadek & Pensa fields a ‘personable and user-friendly’ team that advises on the full spectrum of issues from tax advisory and labour law to dispute resolution, M&A, restructuring and more general corporate and commercial matters. It is regularly involved in the most significant deals in Slovenia and handles a broad range of direct and indirect tax matters from tax structuring and due diligence work to representing clients before the Slovenian tax authority. Its dispute resolution practice frequently handles the most complex domestic and cross-border litigation and arbitration cases in the country. The team receives plaudits for being ‘very professional and efficient’. Among the names to note in this ‘well organised and responsive’ team are Srečo Jadek and Pavle Pensa. In other highlights Borut Leskovec, Domen Romih  and Iris Pensa were all promoted to the partnership. The team is ‘composed of experts with different expertise, all have a professional attitude’ – Aleksandra Jemc Merc, Jure Levovnik and Ožbej Merc are also recommended.

‘From the Jadek & Pensa Law Firm I have worked with Mr. Borut Leskovec and Mr. Jure Levovnik.  Most of the time I have worked with Mr. Borut Leskovec but I can say that they are both very professional, efficient, reliable, polite, they always stick to the agreement and deliver on time’.

‘Jadek & Pensa team is very knowledgeable, and always on the ball; experience for a client is seamless. Years of experience and insight behind every decision, confidence inspiring’.

‘Lead Partner was Mr. Ožbej Merc. He played his part perfectly and he has a very good ability to explain difficult legal things (for non-lawyers) to clients and others. So, we were not bogged down in legal minutia or technicalities (although there were a lot of those to deal with) but focused on the substance. He has a very good grasp of business risk and the allocation of it, in the context of finding a solution that will work for all parties. Highly recommended! Also very involved was Mrs. Nastja Merlak. She handled a great many different workstreams seamlessly. Her ability to remember back the genesis of issues and solutions was very helpful when trying to understand the structure of the deal and how to move forward. Highly recommended as well!’.

‘We cooperated in the area of competition law, namely with the attorney Janja Zaplotnik. The service is highly professional and they understand the retail business.  Janja Zaplotnik, she is highly professional, works under pressure and under tight deadlines’.

The team is very professional and they have wide knowledge, esp. with tax law and corporate law. With respect to tax law, they are far more experienced than the other firms. We intensively work with Domen Romih who is an expert in tax law. He has outstanding knowledge, is very innovative and proposes various solutions to certain problems/challenges. He is responsive (returns calls) and very reliable’.

‘This law firm is distinguished by the fact that it has specialised experts in virtually all areas of law. It is further recommended by its attitude towards its clients; they listen, understand the problem, analyse possible solutions and make feasible suggestions, all in the shortest possible time. Lawyers strive for excellence, best knowledge and the highest level of professionalism. The firm uses various IT solutions to enable unhindered personal and confidential communication in all circumstances. Fair and transparent billing’.

‘Srečo Jadek (Senior partner) – A noble lawyer in the best sense of the word, a man of broad horizons, well connected, with an exceptional knowledge of many areas of law, legal history (very important in a country in transition), and with excellent sense of law and justice. Janja Zaplotnik (Partner) – Outstanding lawyer with excellent knowledge of competition law (including state aids) and commercial law. Bright, confident, reliable adviser, very efficient, integrates many areas of law and controls even the smallest details in large complex cases. Our first choice for any issues in (or connected to) the field of competition law and state aids. Iris Pensa (Partner) – The best choice in Slovenia for all employment law issues, including intervention legislation related to the new coronavirus epidemic. Insightful, precise, with excellent knowledge of the field, understanding of the circumstances in which employers operate, extremely fast, responsive, yet reliable and professional’.

‘I mostly work with Borut Leskovec in the field of public procurement. Mr. Leskovec is a public procurement expert, highly professional, quickly understands the problem, he thinks broadly, processes all possible aspects and he is pleasant to work with’.

Jadek & Pensa

We believe that economy and thereby our firm are (co)responsible for sustainable development, consistent with protected human rights. We are trying to transfer this belief in a balanced manner also to our clients. In providing our services and legal advice, we encourage our clients in an appropriate manner to efficient and consistent operation in terms of human rights protection.

However, we know that from the point of view of human rights protection, it is important that the victims of human rights violation have access to efficient legal means, which can be ensured only through high-quality legal assistance. We deem high-quality representation and legal assistance for socially disadvantaged persons are part of our duties. Therefore, we encourage our employees to devote a part of their time to work on the matters that according to their nature could contribute to activities consistent with protected human rights in all fields of human development and would thus contribute to socially responsible behaviour and sustainable development. In cases where this is appropriate with regard to the circumstances of an individual matter, we offer our advice and services free of charge –pro bono.

In year 2019 we carried out many exiting pro-bono projects.

As local experts we have contributed to a major pro bono project being conducted on behalf of Dr. David Boyd, the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights and the Environment. Under this project we researched the human right to a healthy environment and good practices related to the recognition and implementation of the right to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment under Slovenian law. The final report was presented by the UN special Rapporteur to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday 2 March 2020. A copy of the final report is available here: https://www.ohchr.org/EN/Issues/Environment/SREnvironment/Pages/Annualreports.aspx.

We have also represented several groups of villagers in the dispute with the Municipality over the ownership of the aqueduct and the right of drinking water. We were very glad that we managed to reach a settlement.

Last but not least, we were also working on the research project for the Centre for Reproductive Rights in relation to asylum regulations and reproductive rights.

Also in 2020 we will continue to support our pro bono work and try to contribute with our expertise to better, more just and more sustainable world.
