Director and Senior Partner

Jonathan is Director and Senior partner at Senguler & Senguler with nearly 30 years’ experience in the Turkish legal market. He has built up a significant practice advising clients in a variety of sectors with deep experience in M&A, energy, finance, banking and project work.

Being able to negotiate and draft in Turkish, together with his knowledge of the local market, he has helped many foreign investors navigate the tricky waters of the legal and regulatory regime.

Advising on M&A deals and providing day to day support on corporate matters for multinational clients forms an integral part of his practice.

Jonathan is also a qualified arbitrator, sitting in ICC cases and leads the Senguler team in their investment arbitration cases.

Jonathan started his career in Scotland with a high street firm, but then moved to Istanbul to take up a position in Istanbul University law faculty. in 1991 he did a masters in law then was discovered by the Scottish law firm Ledingham Chalmers which had business with Turkish Petroleum. This lead to the formation of the Ledingham Chalmers Istanbul and Baku offices in 1995, and Jonathan managed the Istanbul office from then until 2024 when Senguler was formed. Notable deals during the LC time was lead counsel for the Turkish Ministry of Energy on the Baku Tiblisi Ceyhan pipeline deal.

Jonathan is married to Juay and they have two married children and two sweet grandkids.
