About
Glovers is a firm of commercial real estate specialist lawyers based in Covent Garden.
We act for a wide range of businesses – from well-known hospitality and leisure operators, retail brands and major construction companies to specialist banks and lending institutions.
Types of work undertaken.
Real estate finance
Our excellent reputation has been built on the work that we do with alternative lenders, domestic and international private, retail and merchant banks and other financial institutions.
Our team of dedicated real estate finance lawyers combines all the benefits of a smaller firm with the expertise normally associated with a much larger one. Unlike larger firms, our deal teams are stream-lined because our solicitors are skilled in dealing with both the property and the security side of the transaction. We also work closely with our other departments such as our construction team to deal with development documentation and security to offer a seamless and cost-effective service.
In the real estate finance section of the Legal 500, we are described as being a “very strong, specialist team who cover all aspects of the secured property leading market… Very personable and responsive and competitive on fees” and of “providing exceptional service and always delivering on time.”
Commercial property
We deliver creative and practical advice combining our technical legal expertise with a highly commercial approach to give our clients the lead in transactions.
Although we act for a number of landlords, our landlord and tenant practice is predominantly occupier - focused, acting for retail and office occupiers and an unparalleled list of household name hospitality and leisure clients across the whole sector covering cinemas, bowling alleys, gyms, pubs, bars and restaurants.
Our development team act for a number of highly active, predominantly residential, developers and can assist at all stages of the development process from joint venture agreements, land and site assembly, planning and infrastructure agreements, funding, construction and unit disposals.
We also advise on the full spectrum of the commercial property investment ownership cycle. This ranges from the initial acquisition through to value enhancement by development to letting, estate management and ultimately disposal.
Hospitality and leisure
Our hospitality and leisure client base has been built up over approximately 25 years. Our restaurant practice is unrivaled by reference to client profile and the volume of transactions, our clients ranging from critically acclaimed independent operators to national chains.
We also act for a large bar group and a number of pub companies as well as a high profile boutique cinema group, a premium bowling alley operator, other experiential operators and gyms and fitness centres.
In the Legal 500, clients commend us for being ‘extremely knowledgeable and well versed in the sector’.
We are described as being ‘the leaders in this field. No other team does more high profile restaurant and hospitality work’ and ’superb and having unparalleled industry specific knowledge when handling lease transactions’ as well as being ‘personable and more client friendly than any other solicitors in the field’.
Dispute resolution
Our solicitors offer specialist litigation expertise across four key areas: banking and finance litigation, property litigation, professional negligence and insolvency.
We provide a personal, partner-led service with a practical and approachable style, which is both commercially aware and cost effective.
We pride ourselves on our continued success in formulating creative and practical strategies to avoid disputes arising as far as possible. When they do occur, we are adept at mitigating risk and damage to clients and efficiently and pro-actively managing and resolving conflicts appropriately, including the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
We focus on achieving our clients’ objectives and adopt a pragmatic approach with the aim of maximising a positive outcome for clients whilst minimising the risk, cost and management time which litigation inevitably entails.
Glovers’ established track record and quality of service are acclaimed by the Legal 500, with members of our litigation team having been praised as "superb", "savvy", and "extremely competent" as well as having "a cerebral and measured approach to litigation" and "excellent client liaison skills".
Construction
The firm is experienced in the handling of a wide range of contentious and non-contentious construction matters. Cases are typically multi-party actions that can involve claims for defects, extensions of time for payment as well as claims concerning the performance of construction professionals. The firm has been at the forefront of the development of the law in adjudication.
