Diversity
At NautaDutilh, we aim to meet our clients' needs, contribute to their success and create an inspiring and challenging working environment for our employees. We embrace independence and integrity towards our clients, employees, stakeholders and society at large.
Taking responsibility for the effects of our activities from a social, ecological and economic perspective is a fundamental part of how we think and act. We are firmly rooted in society and actively contribute to the way it functions, based on our specific competences and our diversity, in a way that is true to our character. That same mission was of equal importance to one of our founders, Tobias Asser, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1911.
Today, we are involved in and support a wide range of activities, such as the Lawyers for Lawyers Foundation where we sit on the board, and are the exclusive legal advisers to the SI² fund, which invests in innovative, socially responsible companies. We also participate in Pro Bono Connect and are among the 13 law firms that support the public interest clearinghouse. We set aside time to contribute to new legislation and regulations through consultation procedures, and encourage the relatively large number of academics in our ranks to take part in them. In addition to various internal initiatives, many of our people are active in political, social and/or cultural activities and events outside of work.
Children and Law
We are especially dedicated to playing an active role in society for children who have poor access to 'law'. One of the organisations we support in this light is KidsRights, which promotes the well-being of vulnerable children across the world and advocates for the realization of their rights. We also support JINC, giving young people a better chance for the future, and introduce children from underprivileged neighbourhoods to the concept of 'law' at the IMC Weekend School. We also provide legal services the Kindertelefoon (Child Helpline) on a pro bono basis.
Sustainability
Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) are key drivers for NautaDutilh, embodied in our mission to ‘Empower the Next Generation’.
With climate change and sustainability high on the agenda for many of our clients, sustainable business and climate change increasingly form part of our everyday work. It is imperative for us to keep our clients informed on the legal developments surrounding these themes.
Besides our client work, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and integrating sustainability into our business operations firm-wide.
We strive to involve our people in our sustainability efforts through our impact programme. Everyone within the firm receives four Impact Days per year to contribute to society through legal pro bono work or community engagement projects, that contribute to our focus Sustainable Development Goals.
Diversity Committee
Our firm is home to the brightest legal minds and most ambitious business professionals from all backgrounds. As a people-driven business, we value the unique perspectives and experiences each individual brings.
We invest in developing entrepreneurial and leadership skills across our diverse talent to better serve our clients. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and safe environment where everyone can bring their whole selves to work, feel respected, and be recognized as a valued member of our firm.
Gender diversity, LGBTQAI+ diversity, bi-cultural diversity, and neurodiversity are of primary concern. We believe that diversity makes a team stronger and more innovative.
The current male to female ratio in our partner population is approximately 30/70. Although this makes NautaDutilh one of the top 5 Dutch law firms in terms of gender diversity, our goal is 50/50, which we hope to achieve by actively recruiting and retaining talented women with, among other things, effective career coaching and by preventing subconscious prejudice from rearing its head in performance reviews. In terms of up-and-coming talent, we are already at 50/50.
In 2014, NautaDutilh became the first independent law firm in the Benelux to have its own LGBTQAI+ network. We are one of the co-founders of Stichting Forward, which aims to promote the acceptance, recognition, and visibility of LGBTQAI+ in the Dutch legal profession.
NautaDutilh also strives for a greater influx of bi-culturally diverse talent. To implement this in practice, we created an internal taskforce that challenges our way of working. We have partnered with Roots Inspire this year, this is a mentorship programme that focusses on bi-cultural representation and experience. We believe that role models are important to grow diversity.
In 2025, we co-founded our own Dutch Neurodiversity Network, with a specific focus on promoting and supporting neurodiversity within the corporate workforce. This initiative is aimed at increasing awareness, visibility, and inclusiveness for neurodivergent professionals across the legal and corporate sectors.
Our internal taskforces that focus on key aspects of diversity, including bi-cultural diversity, neurodiversity, and LGBTQAI+ diversity play a critical role in identifying challenges, proposing solutions, and ensuring continuous progress toward a more inclusive and supportive working environment.
