Martje is widely recognised for her expertise in the energy sector, where she advises clients on critical strategic issues and has represented companies in a wide range of matters.

She has over 15 years' experience in the energy sector, including in-house experience gained during a secondment to Shell. Having developed her expertise in De Brauw's arbitration and litigation department, Martje has fully moved to De Brauw's public law practice to expand her work on multi-disciplinary energy and infrastructure related matters, assisting clients with regulatory issues in projects, transactions and disputes.

Clients value Martje as an accomplished practitioner who can advise on both legal and economic issues in complex matters. She also handles highly political and sensitive disputes and negotiations, managing numerous stakeholders and interests. Clients refer to Martje as "a very smart attorney with a pleasant and convincing way of presenting a matter in court", having "a very elegant and forceful way of interrogating experts on the stand" and as "very responsive, good at handling stress and always calm and nice to work with. She is excellent."

Martje has been a court member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (ICC) since 2021, and actively participates in the court’s judicial supervision of ICC arbitrations, including decisions on challenges and the review and approval of ICC arbitral awards. In addition, Martje is an executive board member of the Dutch Arbitration Association and serves on the arbitral panels of the Netherlands Arbitration Institute (NAI) and the Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SAC).

Martje has been included in GAR's latest edition of its '45 under 45' – a guide to the leading younger practitioners in international arbitration, and is ranked Band 3 in Arbitration in the Chambers Global and Europe Guides 2025.
