The Lex 100 Verdict

Geldards has offices in Cardiff, Derby, London and Nottingham. Trainees chose Geldards because ‘it is a big commercial firm but not too big that we become just a number’. A ‘wide variety of practice areas’ and ‘big clients who instruct us on interesting work’ are also selling points. For one recruit, the ‘supervision and quality of work I experienced as a paralegal made me determined to stay on at the firm to complete my training contract’. Supervisors at Geldards are ‘always happy to explain things if we don’t understand’ and ‘constructive feedback is always available’. In fact, ‘everyone speaks to everyone’, which makes Geldards ‘a great place to be a trainee’. Some of the grievances are that the firm ‘goes under the radar’, and that ‘there isn’t much contact between practice areas in the Cardiff and Midlands offices’. Some trainees think that ‘the salary could be better’, although they noted that ‘we are paid above the rate of some other firms’. Recruits relished ‘getting good feedback on multiple pieces of work I had done’, ‘taking the responsibility of providing initial advice to a client’ and ‘receiving very positive feedback from a partner on work I had done in the first week of my new seat’. ‘Making an error in a research task’ and ‘adjusting to the increased level and quality of work assigned to me as a trainee - compared to as a paralegal – was particularly challenging in my first seat’. For ‘friendly people’, ‘lots of opportunities to deal with unique tasks’ and ‘good seat choices’, start your application to Geldards.
