Legal Market Overview

The perception that Tanzania is not wholly open to foreign law firms was strengthened by the departure of ENSafrica in August 2019. In a statement, the South Africa-based firm cited newly passed laws that ‘impact on transnational professional services firms in terms of their operations and management‘. The exit of the firm followed Norton Rose Fulbright, which closed its office in 2018. This has not deterred other foreign entrants with Clyde & Co LLP expanding its senior ranks through a series of partner promotions and Bowmans, which hired up-and-coming lawyer Asha-Sabrina Ayub  from A&K Tanzania. A&K Tanzania changed its name from ATZ Law Chambers as it looks to further cement its connection to Anjarwalla & Khanna in Kenya.
