Legal Market Overview
Scotland’s legal market has been reshaped in recent years by a series of takeovers of the country’s top firms by international players such as CMS, Pinsent Masons and Addleshaw Goddard, and the trend continued in late 2017 with Dentons’ acquisition of Maclay Murray & Spens. However, the biggest remaining independents, such as Brodies, Burness Paull and Shepherd and Wedderburn, are continuing to thrive, with sectors such as food and drink, fintech, real estate, infrastructure and retail generating substantial amounts of work. Other key domestic firms include Anderson Strathern, Harper Macleod, Morton Fraser and high-end corporate specialist Dickson Minto.
