Legal Market Overview
The Ivory Coast sits at the heart of the region known as Organisation pour l’Harmonisation en Afrique du Droit des Affaires (OHADA). OHADA provides a harmonised business law environment across 17 West and Central African jurisdictions. Further regional integration exists through the West African Monetary Union (WAMU), which provides a common monetary unit, the Franc of the African financial community, in eight West African states. The strategic value of Abidjan, the Ivory Coast’s capital, has not been lost on the legal profession. OHADA’s Common Court of Justice and Arbitration is based in the city and the local legal market is well-served by those that have deep local and international experience. International law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has a presence in Abidjan through orrick rci and Senegal firm Houda Law Firm launched an Abidjan office in 2018.
