Evidencing the firm’s sell-side credentials, HarneysGreg Boyd recently acted as local counsel for global supply chain services and solutions provider UTi Worldwide (as part of a London and BVI cross-office team) on its $1.35bn sale to DSV. Corporate and commercial head Jacqueline Daley-Aspinall advised TSX and FSE-listed Energulf Resources on its acquisition of TSX-listed Columbus Copper Corporation by way of a plan of arrangement. Other key advisers include transactional head Russell Willings, head of banking and finance Tanya Cassie-Parker, head of investment funds and regulatory Philip Graham, and global head of banking and finance Colin Riegels. Harneys has an ‘outstanding team’, which was augmented recently with the recruitment of counsel Peter Tyers-Smith from Kobre & Kim. The practice continued to defend member companies of Dubai-based Mara Group, a pan-African conglomerate, against an unfair prejudice petition, which arose from the withdrawal of Mara Holdings Africa from one of its funds and the subsequent sale of its shares in the fund to the majority investor. BVI head of litigation and insolvency Andrew Thorp is ‘a great strategist and very effective’; he is especially focused on insolvency and international asset tracing. Jeremy Child, who is a ‘clever, hardworking advocate with excellent knowledge of BVI law’, splits his time between the BVI and London offices and is recommended for company and insolvency matters. Harneys’ non-contentious trusts team regularly advises on the establishment and restructuring of British Virgin Islands (BVI) trusts, including Virgin Islands Special Trusts Act (VISTA) trusts, private trust companies, as well as purpose, unit and employee benefit trusts. It also has a solid litigation practice.
