Baker McKenzie has recently undertaken regulatory work for high-profile clients in the telecoms, financial services and technology sectors setting up businesses in Vietnam, and has also handled acquisitions in the digital market and established fintech ventures. Yee Chung Seck and recently promoted partner Manh Hung Tran head the practice; the latter is also a contact at local affiliate BMVN International LLC, which is able to litigate in Vietnamese courts.

Frasers Law Company has expertise in handling high-value telecoms deals, as well as the establishment of operations in Vietnam, business expansion and IP licensing. At Russin & Vecchi, LLC, the well-regarded Nguyen Huu Minh Nhut advised Google on Vietnamese regulations, data protection and policy advice, and Sesto Vecchi assisted Amdocs Software Solutions with regulatory and government contract law advice relating to the client’s technology products. Tilleke & Gibbins is often at the forefront of innovative TMT deals, with recent experience in advising on mobile app deals, telecoms regulations and data protection. The team, led by Jim Dao, advised Merck Sharp & Dohme on regulations concerning electronic signature software for healthcare professionals and assisted Lenovo with Vietnamese laws regarding online privacy policy. International Rocket and MTV are also clients.

At Audier & Partners Vietnam L.L.C., Nicolas Audier and Etienne Laumonier ‘have a very good knowledge of the regulatory environment’ for TMT matters and have handled numerous e-commerce projects for blue-chip clients in the broadcasting, telecoms and financial services industries.     On 6/20/2012, the National Assembly voted to adopt the Law on Price (the "LOP") in response to the public demand for an effective legal framework to control price manipulation from dominant enterprises such as gasoline, electricity, etc. The law will take effect from 01/01/2013 and repeal Ordinance No. 40/2002/PL-UBTVQH10 dated 26/4/2002 of the National Assembly Standing Committee (the "Ordinance"), which is conceived as outdated and containing certain provisions contravening the WTO’s regulation. This article describes the main features of the law and provides some insight into its potential impacts on the Vietnamese economy.
