Bird & Bird’s work focuses on sectors such as life sciences, technology and communications, and aviation. Gabriel Lidman represented Actelion Pharmaceuticals at the Patents and Market Court as part of wider multijurisdictional litigation, which concerned a European patent which is registered to Icos Corporation. The media and entertainment sectors are also areas of focus; Staffan Boström and Jerker Edström recently advised Live Nation on acquiring Stureplansgruppen Live. Malin Ekstrand is also recommended.

In the media sector, Danowsky & Partners’ Ulf Isaksson is representing Sveriges Television in a copyright infringement matter involving a high-ranking member of the Sweden Democrats party. The team also advises clients from a variety of industries on contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters. Peter Danowsky is a key figure in the team.

Led by Henrik Bengtsson and Peter Skoglund, Advokatfirman Delphi’s team advises clients on developing IP strategies, managing and enforcing IP rights, and dispute resolution. Bengtsson and Richard Lenemark are representing the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry in litigation against an internet service provider over blocking access to The Pirate Bay website. Bengtsson and Lenemark also act for Wikimedia Sweden in a high-profile copyright dispute with BUS; the matter is currently pending before the Swedish Supreme Court.

Gozzo Advokater’s practice covers the commercialisation of intellectual property rights, advertising and marketing, competition law, anti-counterfeiting and litigation. Giovanni Gozzo successfully defended Krka Sverige in patent infringement proceedings brought by AstraZeneca, while HĂ„kan Sjöström and Catharina Bratt are handling a copyright infringement claim for Benny & Jessica. Ann-Charlotte Söderlund Björk, Ragnar Lundgren and Örjan GrundĂ©n are also recommended.

AdvokatbyrĂ„n Gulliksson’s Mattias Malmstedt is representing Seiko Epson in two infringement litigation matters over patents covering ink cartridges. Hans-Anders Odh and Ulrika Nordenvik advise corporations on the IP issues associated with company acquisitions, including assisting with research and development agreements. Jonas Gulliksson and Jens Olsson are other key figures. Magnus Dahlman joined from Setterwalls in 2017.

Dag Sandart’s team at Sandart&Partners AdvokatbyrĂ„ KB includes Anders Kylhammar, who ‘gets results’ in IP litigation. The group assists clients with negotiating and drafting agreements, including those covering software development, licensing and publishing. Karin Cederlund and Peter Sande are recommended, as are senior associates Julia Ericsson and Karin Westerberg. Christopher Tehrani joined Hannes Snellman as a managing associate in 2018.

Noted for its broad IP practice, Setterwalls is active in patent litigation and has a strong trade marks offering. Sophia Spala jointly heads the practice with Martin Levinsohn and Fredrik Roos. Levinsohn and Per Lidman recently acted for Sandoz in its revocation claim over AstraZeneca’s patent for a sustained release formulation of the drug quetiapine. Cloetta, Orifarm and Swep International are longstanding clients.

Advokatfirman Vinge is a major player in high-stakes IP matters; HÄkan BorgenhÀll and Tobias Kempas assisted Swedish Match North Europe with obtaining a preliminary injunction against Fiedler & Lundgren in a case involving trade mark infringement and misleading marketing issues. BorgenhÀll jointly heads the practice with Eva Blum.

Baker & McKenzie AdvokatbyrĂ„ KB’s Peder Oxhammar and associate Alexandra Persson are advising Raoul Wallenberg Academy on the use of its trade mark in collaborations with third parties and securing multijurisdictional trade mark protection for the mark Raoul Wallenberg. Other clients are from industries such as defence, pharmaceuticals and electronics.

Advokatfirman Cederquist KB ‘has always been a very progressive and well-respected firm with ties to the media industry’. It also acts for clients in sectors such as transport and technology. Malin Allard joined the firm from Ericsson in 2017 to head the practice. Associate Isabelle Emanuelsson was a new hire from At Night. Henrik Lindstrand works with Allard to assist AB Svensk Filmindustri with matters such as rights clearances and licensing.

Frank AdvokatbyrÄ’s media and entertainment industry clients include film and TV producers, content distributors and broadcasters. Mattias Erdös and Linda LandĂ©n are advising Bonnier Broadcasting on matters such as strategic contracts, media rights acquisitions and contentious issues. LandĂ©n also handles copyright infringement cases for the Swedish collecting society Stim.

Advokatfirman Lindahl KB, which is ‘among the best patent litigation firms in Sweden’, fields practice head Jonas Westerberg and Henrik Wistam. Helena WassĂ©n Öström focuses on trade mark law and portfolio management. Other strengths of the practice include copyrights, design rights and trade secrets. Wistam and Ludvig Holm are representing GlaxoSmithKline in a case concerning infringement of unregistered 3D trade marks covering the shape of an asthma inhaler.

MAQS AdvokatbyrĂ„ acts for Swedish mid-sized companies and large international corporates from sectors such as fashion, technology, media and retail. Christina Berggren, who co-heads the practice with David Berggren and Monique Wadsted, is representing The Coca-Cola Company in a case where a competitor objected to the client’s Älska Mer trade mark. The team’s other ongoing work includes advice on trade marks and design rights portfolio management, patent commercialisation and litigation, and copyright protection and infringements.

Mannheimer Swartling’s team has particular experience acting for clients in the life sciences, manufacturing, technology and media sectors. It plays a key role in major transactions and projects; Oscar Björkman Possne advised Google on its acquisition of Limes Audio and Niklas Sjöblom assisted Volvo Cars with its joint venture (concerning driverless vehicles) with Autoliv. The broader practice also covers portfolio management, trade mark prosecution, software licensing and litigation. Per Josefson is also recommended.

Awapatent AB handles a comprehensive range of IP matters involving trade marks, patents, designs and copyrights. It stands out in litigation; a team led by Peter Kenamets is representing Hexatronic (a Swedish producer of products for fibre optic networks) in a high-profile, cross-border patent infringement dispute with UK company Emtelle. Martin TranĂ€lv, Robin Berzelius and Fredrik LĂŒning are other practitioners.

Com AdvokatbyrĂ„ provides wide-ranging advice to clients in the media and entertainment, arts, IT and telecoms sectors. Helene Hillerström Miksche’s expertise encompasses media sector regulations, copyright, trade marks, defamation and unfair competition. Helena Ehinger and Jesper Lindfors are other key figures.

DLA Piper’s Sweden-based practice operates as part of a wider Nordic region group. Practice head Emil Ödling advises ITV Nordic on programme production and distribution, format development, sales and licensing. Other clients include Black Spark Television, B-Reel Feature Films and Memfis Filmproduktion. In addition to media and entertainment, other sector strengths are gaming and gambling, and sports.

Mats Hugoson’s team at Gernandt & Danielsson AdvokatbyrĂ„ acts for longstanding media and entertainment sector clients, such as Modern Times Group, Aftonbladet and the Schibsted Media Group. The group, which includes senior associate Erik Sandgren, also handles IP matters for clients in other industries, including IT and telecoms, retail and food.

Hammarskiöld & Co AB’s team is led by Thomas Lindqvist, who was appointed as chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce’s Intellectual Property Committee in Sweden. Lindqvist and others assist McDonald’s with trade mark registrations, oppositions and renewals, and ‘freedom to operate’ searches. Claes Langenius is also recommended.

Heidenstam Legal Advokat AB’s practice covers trade marks and trade names, patents, designs and copyright. Clients include Warner Bros, Gillette, Philip Morris and Hugo Boss. Managing partner Peter von Heidenstam and Helena Östblom are the main contacts at the firm.

Kastell AdvokatbyrĂ„ AB’s Stefan Widmark is representing Running Sweden in a trade mark infringement dispute with Adidas. Widmark is also working with Bodil Ehlers to represent TeliaSonera Sverige in Copyswede’s claim for copyright levies on mobile phones. ComHem, Samsung and Dustin are among other notable clients.

Advokatfirman MarLaw AB focuses on IP and marketing law. Marcus Ateva provides strategic advice to Swedish and international companies on protecting trade marks, copyrights, designs and patents as well as advising on domain name disputes. Managing partner Daniel Tornberg specialises in handling marketing law cases before the Patent and Market Court and undertaking IP-related litigation. Katarina Ladenfors is also recommended.

In the trade marks sphere, Ramberg Advokater assists clients with commercialisation issues, portfolio management and litigation. Its team also advises on other intellectual property rights, including patents and copyrights. Practice head Henrik Lindström undertakes IP litigation and arbitration. Peter Hedberg and Tom Kronhöffer are other notable individuals in the team. Clients include Allergan, Levi Strauss and Richemont.

Complementing its strong IP litigation capabilities, Wistrand has had an uptick in non-contentious IP work, such as contract reviews, licence agreements and the commercialisation of trade marks. Erik Ullberg, and senior associate Johannes WÄrdman advised Norwegian client Vakre Hjem on a joint venture and licensing deal with Swedish retail chain Happy Homes. Jörgen Larsson is representing Michael Weinig and Raimann Holzoptimierung at the Swedish Supreme Court in a case concerning the misappropriation of trade secrets by two former employees. Ullberg jointly heads the practice with Christel Rockström.

Zacco’s team advises on the registration of patents, trade marks and designs, and also handles associated dispute resolution. Hampus Adlerton represented Stockforsa Invest as the claimant in a trade mark infringement action against Lindovald Hotels and Peter Lindoff over the defendants’ use of the trademark Höörs GĂ€stgifwaregĂ„rd. Other clients include Arla Foods, Svenskt Tenn and ArjoWiggins Security. Claes Agnvall, Nils-Erik Folemark and Maria Beijer are other names to note.

Eversheds AdvokatbyrĂ„ AB (a member of Eversheds Sutherland)’s team undertakes IP due diligence in corporate transactions as well as advising on areas such as patents, trade mark infringements, trade secrets and licensing. Clients include Transmode Systems, Sectra Imaging IT Solutions and Cortus. Richard Jacobsson leads the team.

Front Advokater assists clients with software and IT-related IP matters, including those concerning trade marks and copyright. Its other work includes litigation involving advertising and marketing practices. Robert MoldĂ©n is particularly knowledgeable about the interplay between IP law and competition law. Johannes Fundeborg is based at the firm’s Stockholm office. Petter Holm, who is located in Gothenburg, is the practice head.

Magnusson AdvokatbyrĂ„ covers a wide range of issues for clients in the life sciences, media and retail sectors. Charlotte Bus recently assisted Swedish food retailer ICA Gruppen with a number of licensing agreements, and she also advises the client on data protection issues. Bus is currently assisting the Swedish Ski Association and the Swedish Ski Team X-Country with trade mark applications and sponsorship agreements. Åsa Ashjari departed for Volvo Group Trucks Technology.

Moll WendĂ©n AdvokatbyrÄ’s team includes Stefan WendĂ©n and David Klose. The group assists clients with commercialising and protecting intellectual property rights (including trade marks, patents and design rights), infringement investigations and dispute resolution. The firm’s marketing law work spans sectors such as banking, food and pharmaceuticals.

Nordia Law’s Karl Olle Möller advises clients from the sports and entertainment industries on IP, regulatory and broader commercial matters. Other team members include practice head MĂ„rten Stenström in Stockholm and Fredrik Persson and Carl Otto Lange in Gothenburg. Recent work highlights include assisting Newport with filing new trade mark applications and objections at the EUIPO, and successfully representing the client in IP litigation. Advokatfirman NorelidHolm’s Susanna Norelid advises Swedish and international clients on marketing and advertising law issues. In the IP sphere, the work involves handling the registration and protection of various rights, including trade marks, copyright and trade secrets. IP litigation is another workstream.

Led by Erik Ficks, Roschier covers all the contentious and non-contentious aspects of copyright, trade marks, trade secrets and design rights. The firm advises clients in the high-tech, media, life sciences and financial services sectors on transactions, licensing and other commercial agreements, as well as data protection. Ficks, Lars Johansson, Björn Johansson Heigis and Rebecca Huselius advise Bonnierförlagen on copyright, trade marks (including managing its global portfolios) and various media issues.

Synch Advokat AB’s Sara Sparring and David Leffler recently assisted Flexenclosure with the design protection aspects of its hybrid power system, the eSITE x10.
