bpv Grigorescu ŇětefńÉnicńɬ†represents a number of multinational corporations, including Google, who employ the firm for day-to-day advice, regulatory and localisation work as well as privacy, copyright and data protection matters. Catalin Grigorescu¬†and¬†Alexandru Rusu¬†jointly head the practice; recent work includes advising EPLAN on the localisation of its general terms and conditions regarding the sale of software for mechanical engineering design. Prominent Romania-based companies also form part of the client roster, as do a number of IT and technology start-ups. The recent caseload also includes several GDPR-related instructions.

TMT-related M&A is a core strength for CMS¬†with practice co-head Horea Popescu¬†advising Liberty Global on the ‚ā¨18.4bn sale of its European assets to Vodafone. Counsel has been provided in relation to the Czech, Hungarian and Romanian aspects of the transaction. Gabriel Sidere¬†leads the practice alongside Popescu and is advising Radio Max Romania on setting up an online radio and acquiring the relevant licenses. In another highlight, the team advised Eurobank on its IT outsourcing arrangement with Accenture. Other strengths include regulatory, competition and public procurement mandates.

MuŇüat & AsociaŇ£ii¬†handles regulatory matters, transactions, sector-related intellectual property aspects and commercial disputes. Data protection is a further field of expertise and the team advised Deutsche Bank on processing employees' sensitive personal data. Facebook is a notable client and sought advice on EU law covering fixed and wireless telecoms, internet and broadcasting and transmission services. Iulian Popescu¬†leads the team, which also acts for clients including DropBox, Discovery and Sony Europe. Bogdan Petru-Mihai is now of counsel with Popescu & Asociatii.

The recent caseload at Nestor Nestor Diculescu Kingston Petersen consists of TMT-related M&A work, regulatory matters, data privacy mandates as well as contractual obligation and arrangement issues. Practice head Adina Chilim-Dumitriu is highly recommended.

CńÉtńÉlin BńÉiculescu¬†and Vlad Cercel¬†head the practice at ŇĘuca Zb√Ęrcea & AsociaŇ£ii. It covers a wide range of TMT work including sector-specific agreements and litigation, compliance and regulatory work and insourcing and outsourcing agreements. A notable instruction came from Telekom Romania and Telekom Romania Mobile in relation to concession agreements for the construction and operation of the backhaul elements of an electronic communications network. On the M&A front, it formed part of a global team advising Vodafone on its ‚ā¨18.4bn acquisition of Liberty Global‚Äôs European operations.

Buzescu Ca's practice, led by Magda Alexandru, handles the full range of TMT-related matters. Notable recent work includes drafting a report on the implementation of GDPR in Romania on behalf of the European Commission and advising Optaros on the transfer of employees’ personal data to the US based on data transfer agreements. Amromco Energy, Fitbit and Travelport also count among the team's key clients.

At D&B David si Baias SCA, the client roster includes major telecoms operators, media companies and technology entities. The team advised Orange on day-to-day issues including contract negotiations and franchise agreements. It also assisted Castel Film and Media Pro in drafting a proposal for a piece of law concerning a state aid scheme applying to the film industry. Manuela Guia and Bianca Naghi left the firm to establish GNP Guia Naghi and Partners SCA in 2019.

Dentons possesses expert knowledge of technology-sector M&A, competition, consumer and data protection, finance and GDPR issues. Recent work highlights include advising Tata Communications on an array of regulatory issues specific to the Romanian market as well as providing counsel to a multinational conglomerate from the US on its EU-wide GDPR implementation. Anda G Todor and managing counsel Anamaria Corbescu jointly head the team.

Sectors of expertise for DLA Piper Dinu SCA include software and hardware technology, telecoms, media, internet and life sciences. Counsel Ana-Maria Andronic heads the practice and assists UiPath Group on matters including intellectual property and the acquisition of technology from other companies. Her team is adept at handling GDPR issues and is advising a Romanian telecommunications company on embedding the relevant new data privacy rules.

Telecoms provider RCS & RDS is a key client for Filip & Company; it instructed the team in the acquisition by its Hungarian subsidiary of Invitel Távközlési Zrt, a key operator in the Hungarian telecoms market. The group, headed by Alexandru Birsan, is particularly knowledgeable of the IT sector, advising a Romanian business management consultant on a joint venture agreement with a Turkey-based IT company.

Kinstellar provides a full service in the TMT sector, including telecoms acquisition financing and data protection issues. Practice head Bogdan Bibicu as well as Razvan Popa are the names to note. The latter recently advisedThe Walt Disney Company on the structuring of cross-border data protection matters and BT Group on the Romanian legal framework governing data retention and disclosure by electronic communication providers.

Popovici Nitu Stoica & Asociatii handles the full range of business, competition and regulatory issues for its telecoms clients. Practice head Ernest-Virgil Popovici is assisting Orange Romania with the development of its premium TV service, including negotiation and review of agreements with content providers such as HBO and Netflix as well as full regulatory compliance monitoring and advice. Elsewhere, the team acted for Siveco Romania on drafting its terms and conditions and privacy and cookie policies.

RTPR Allen & Overy (Radu TńÉrńÉcilńÉ PńÉdurari Retevoescu SCA in association with Allen & Overy LLP)¬†is active across the technology, telecoms, media, social media, film distribution and online gaming industries. Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Walt Disney are among a number of Hollywood studios who instructed the team in a claim against internet service providers aiming to block access to pirate movie websites. It also represented high-profile client Sky News in relation to a criminal investigation and subsequent civil claim concerning a news report on arms trafficking in Romania. Costin TńÉrńÉcilńɬ†and Mihai Ristici¬†head the practice.

Work undertaken by Voicu & Filipescu SCA includes regulatory compliance, relocation, outsourcing, M&A and competition issues. Marta Elena Popa heads the practice, which represents a number of high-profile telecoms companies.

Monica Iancu heads the practice at Bondoc si Asociatii SCA alongside Lucian Bondoc. She is an expert on regulatory, data privacy and day-to-day commercial matters in the media and technology fields.

At Drakopoulos, practice head Adrian Roseti notably advised Nestlé on advertising considerations for various products. He also recently acted for Coca-Cola Romania in relation to unfair competition and copyright infringement issues.

Reff & Associates SCA focuses on data protection and the recent caseload contains a number of GDPR-related instructions; high-profile names such as ING Bank, IKEA Romania and Superbet have sought the team’s expertise on the new regulation. Georgiana Singurel heads the practice, which is also adept at e-commerce and digital media, technology and outsourcing, electronic signature and software-related matters.

Cristiana Fernbach recently made partner and leads the practice at Stratulat Albulescu Attorneys at Law alongside Ana Maria Kusak. The team advised a Romanian fitness centre operator on the implementation of an online platform project for the sale of products. Areas of expertise include advertising, GDPR, consumer protection, social media matters and e-commerce.

Wolf Theiss advised the Romanian Payments Association on the development of an IT app for managing tax payments. Additional highlights included a number of GDPR-related instructions, handled by practice head Maria Maxim.
