The maritime practice at Ali Budiardjo, Nugroho, Reksodiputro is among the largest in Indonesia. Group head M Husseyn Umar has held a number of relevant posts with the Indonesian government and handles all matters relating to shipping and maritime law, including arbitration.

Mochtar Karuwin Komar’s practice, led by Craig Heggie, is particularly strong in financing and restructuring matters. He is instructed by international banks as lenders, and has assisted his clients with finalising various loan facilities.

Practice head Samuel Bonaparte Hutapea has extensive experience in the industry; he regularly handles international arbitration and recently acted for the charterer in a dispute arising out of a charterparty agreement regarding the Indonesian tol laut project – one of the country’s many government-mandated infrastructure projects.

At Assegaf Hamzah & Partners, shipping matters are handled by partners from the firm’s banking, corporate and disputes teams. The group advises on maritime insurance, disputes and financing issues. Eko Basyuni is ‘extremely responsive and knowledgeable in the field’.

At Budidjaja & Associates, Tony Budidjaja and Juni Dani have handled a variety of shipping-related disputes, in addition to advising on vessel building projects.

Hadromi & Partners’ shipping practice handles both maritime disputes and financing. Founding partner M. Iqbal Hadromi is experienced in matters involving cargo disputes and vessel arrests, while Alexander Nainggolan advises on maritime investment structuring.

Mohamed Idwan Ganie is the maritime specialist at Lubis Ganie Surowidjojo, having acted for international and domestic clients in a range of matters involving vessel sales and purchases, ship arrests and maritime disputes.
