Led by Timur Sukirno, the team at Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners, a member firm of Baker McKenzie is instructed by Berlian Laju Tanker in the company’s debt restructuring process; one of the largest to ever come before the Indonesian commercial courts. The restructuring team works closely with the firm’s litigation department, and is active in a number of other court-ordered restructurings involving multinational lenders and corporates.

The lawyers at Lubis Ganie Surowidjojo have acted as primary counsel to the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency, assisting with due diligence and negotiations involving debt restructuring as well as drafting banking law amendments. The team has also handled interest sales transactions for Goldman Sachs Finance, VenCap Holdings and Citigroup Financial Products.

Mohamed Idwan Ganie leads the practice Headed by Mulyana, the debt restructuring team at Mochtar Karuwin Komar has experience across a range of general restructuring matters, having acted for lenders, borrowers, shareholders and contractors. Emir Kusumaatmadja assisted Kaltim Pasifik Amoniak with a politically sensitive asset transfer.

Michael Carl and Denny Rahmansyah lead SSEK Legal Consultants’ bankruptcy team, which has recently been involved in a number of restructurings for clients such as Bakrie Telecom and Berlian Laju Tanker. The group also represents corporates in contentious restructurings, and is particularly experienced in handling disputes for mining clients.

Ali Budiardjo, Nugroho, Reksodiputro has recently advised bondholders in various matters involving suspension of payments proceedings, most notably where there are Indonesian bond issuers and international bondholders. Oene Marseille, Emir Nurmansyah and Kevin Sidharta are instructed by KKR in a $2bn debt restructuring undertaken by Berlian Laju Tanker.

Led by Ahmad Maulana, Assegaf Hamzah & Partners advised Biltube Indonesia during its successful application for voluntary bankruptcy. Recently, the team has handled a variety of disputes arising out of debt recovery.

Hutabarat Halim & Rekan handles corporate and debt restructuring matters for companies and financial institutions. The team is currently advising an international bank in an insolvency and subsequent liquidation process. Rosna Chung and Pheo Hutabarat are both key contacts.

Makes & Partners has advised on complex loan syndications and debt restructuring transactions for large international financial institutions such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Barclays and Deutsche Bank.Irfan Ghazali and Iwan Setiawan are key contacts.

Led by Melli Darsa, the team at Melli Darsa & Co. has acted for creditors’ committees in a number of debt restructurings, and also has experience handling loan enforcements and bankruptcy. Manarihon SM Ondi Panggabean is another name to note.

Founding partner Rahmat Soemadipradja leads the banking group at Soemadipradja & Taher, which has strong restructuring capabilities, having advised clients such as International Finance Corporation and Sumatra Copper & Gold on various loan restructurings.
