At Boyanov & Co, the ‘highly regarded’ team handles banking disputes and has expertise in high-profile litigation, national and international arbitration proceedings. The group has significant experience representing clients at the European Court of Justice in environmental and tax matters. Kina Chuturkova and Boyko Voynov jointly head the practice. Clients include Coca-Cola, Philip Morris International and Eurobank Bulgaria.

CMS represents corporates in civil, arbitral and administrative cases, with particular experience in disputes concerning the energy and infrastructure industries. On the commercial front, the group handles insolvencies, debt collection proceedings and IP disputes. Assen Georgiev and Kostadin Sirleshtov acted for ČEZ Group in an administrative appeal regarding national energy companies. Antonia Kahayova represents several important clients, including Heta Asset Resolution Group.

At Djingov, Gouginski, Kyutchukov & Velichkov, the group has ‘incredible efficiency when it comes to complex cases and tight deadlines’. It is representing the FSC in multiple proceedings before the Supreme Administrative Court in IsaOdit’s appeal against removal from an approved auditor list. The group is also defending Glorient Investment in a series of high-value real estate proceedings filed by NSN Investment. Practice head Angel Ganev and Gergana Monovska are practitioners of note.

Georgiev, Todorov & Co’s team is noted for its ‘ability to foresee problems before they occur and prevent them’ and is highly regarded for its expertise in energy and infrastructure disputes. Alexander Katzarsky successfully represented Atomstroyexport in an international arbitration with the Bulgarian National Electricity Company concerning the Belene nuclear power plant, which resulted in an award of €620m to the client. Alexander Pachamanov and senior associate Mariya Derelieva are singled out for their ‘highly skilled’ approach to litigation.

Kambourov & Partners represents a variety of corporates as defendants and claimants in commercial, administrative, arbitral and criminal disputes. Emil Emanuilov is representing Strabag in a public procurement dispute concerning outstanding payments for work performed. The team also represents a number of airlines, including BH Air and Wizz Air, in various proceedings. Yavor Kambourov and Dimitrina Petrova are experienced litigators.

Operating at the top level’, Tomov & Tomov is the ‘best firm for matters involving international disputes’. Name partner Lazar Tomov employs ‘strategic judgement and persuasive legal arguments’. The group has represented the Bulgarian state, often alongside major global law firms including White & Case LLP, in significant international arbitrations, and is currently co-counsel with Sidley Austin LLP, defending the state in an investment treaty arbitration against ST-AD. Sylvia Steeva is also noted.

Andrey Delchev and Partners - Eurolex Bulgaria has a niche in public procurement construction disputes, and is representing Trace Group in various matters concerning infrastructure projects in Bulgaria and Serbia. Andrey Delchev is singled out for his ‘excellence both as an effective team leader and as a competent consultant and litigator’; he is also an arbitrator at the ICC and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce.

Dimitrov, Petrov & Co has ‘an impeccable in-depth and professional approach’ to commercial disputes, and represents debtors and creditors in numerous high-value insolvency proceedings. Practice head Metodi Baykushev is a member of the arbitration council of the newly established Bulgarian Confederation of Employers and Industrials. Encho Simeonov is a former judge.

At Dinova Rusev & Partners, practice head, Konstantin Stambolov handles civil and administrative cases, currently defending an international investor in a complex privatisation dispute with the Bulgarian government. Milen Rusev, who is ‘attentive and thoughtful’, has successfully led a number of appeals against FCA decisions. Clients include Terna Energy and Kaliakra Wind Power.

Dobrev & Lyutskanov’s team has ‘great knowledge of civil law’ and extensive litigation experience in civil and commercial cases. The group also assists clients with enforcing foreign arbitral judgments in Bulgaria. Roumen Lyutskanov is the practice head. Gergana Ilieva is a former government legal advisor and specialises in property disputes.

Tsvetkova Bebov Komarevski’s team provides ‘consistently high quality’ advice; it handles commercial and administrative disputes for domestic and international corporates operating in Bulgaria. The group represents Société Générale alongside Dentons’ Brussels office in the insolvency proceedings of Corporate Commercial Bank, with claims totalling €22.1m. Ilya Komarevski stands out for his ‘confidence in the courtroom’.

Wolf Theiss’ ‘excellent’ team acts for domestic and international corporates across all the regulated industries, with particular recent experience in energy and construction disputes. The firm is often called upon to handle post-M&A and shareholder disputes. Anna Rizova and Radoslav Mikov jointly head the practice. Axpo Bulgaria and ERG Renew are active clients.

Atanassov & Ivanov Law Firm successfully defended Park Place Energy against a potentially damaging challenge to an exploration licence before the Supreme Administrative Court. Clients ‘benefit from the complex insight’ of Stoyan Atanassov and Iliyan Ivanov.

Delchev & Partners acts for a number of international corporates in domestic commercial disputes. The group is representing Lukoil Neftochim Burgas in an appeal against customs and tax decisions. It is also representing the Bulgarian subsidiaries of Fox Networks Group and L’Oréal in separate litigations concerning debt recovery. Bozhko Poryazov leads the practice.

Gugushev & Partners Law Office’s practitioners are ‘very impressive as representatives’ in court, and are ‘well organised and work as one’. Practice head Dafinka Stoycheva handles commercial litigation and arbitration in the energy sector. Petko Angelov’s focus is real estate and tax litigation. The group represented Hareonsolar in a series of administrative litigations before the state regulator.

Jordanov, Ignatov, Ivanov Law Firm’s Svilen Babachev is well regarded for his ‘remarkable litigation background’. Rumen Ignatov is ‘highly competent at designing the right dispute strategy’. The team routinely represents corporates in state arbitration proceedings and other commercial disputes.

Kinkin & Partners handles cases in the banking and energy sectors, as well as disputes arising from the distribution of EU funds. The practice is led by Vladimir Kinkin.

Penkov, Markov & Partners has experience in domestic and international arbitration proceedings and has represented corporate clients before the Bulgarian Supreme Court. Svetlin Adrianov leads the practice.

Peterka & Partners Law Firm represents the Bulgarian subsidiary of Konica Minolta Business Solutions in a claim for damages filed by a previous distributer. The ‘good’ team is led by Plamen Peev.
