As U.S. Attorney, Erek’s leadership included managing a large team of attorneys and staff, coordinating with federal and local law enforcement, and representing the United States in nationally significant cases—including one of the largest cryptocurrency fraud schemes in U.S. history and numerous high-impact False Claims Act matters.
Before his federal appointment, Erek was a litigation partner at a national law firm, representing clients in complex civil and criminal cases, internal investigations, and appellate litigation. He has argued constitutional issues before appellate courts and advised clients on matters involving due process, equal protection, and regulatory compliance.
Erek’s career also includes service as a state and federal prosecutor, counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and as a Maryland state legislator, where he helped shape bipartisan legislation at the intersection of healthcare, criminal justice, and civil rights. His unique blend of courtroom experience, policy acumen, and public service enables him to build trust across sectors and deliver results in high-pressure environments.
A recognized leader in the legal community, Erek has held leadership roles with the American Bar Association, Maryland Legal Aid, and the Maryland Pro Bono Resource Center. His contributions and passion for the rule of law have earned him the ABA’s Curtin-Maleng Minister of Justice Award and recognition as a Top Leader in the Law by The Daily Record. As an early beneficiary of public interest legal service, he is committed to mentoring the next generation of lawyers and strengthening access to justice.
