Career

Cory’s practice centers on patent-related aspects of intellectual property law in both the United States and abroad. He develops and implements patent filing strategies for foundational technologies that deserve a creative and practical solution. Cory also creates and manages patent portfolio reviews for both offensive and defensive needs in a number of diverse technology fields, including artificial intelligence, manufacturing, packaging, athletic equipment, transportation, business methods and the mechanical arts.

In addition to intellectual property prosecution and counseling, Cory counsels clients on artificial intelligence—in both the legal world as a tool for lawyers and in the business world as a competitive advantage. As new challenges and opportunities emerge in law with the implementation of artificial intelligence, Cory is a resource for forecasting and managing change.

Before joining Shook, Cory received a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Iowa, where he used his experience as a licensed pilot working for the university’s Operator Performance Laboratory to research synthetic vision systems in a flying environment. He also worked as a manufacturing engineer at a custom manufacturing facility that specialized in sewn, sealed and thermoformed products, and gained experience in the financial services industry as a Series 7 registered representative for a broker-dealer. In addition, Cory has developed a number of internet-based services from concept to launch, handling all aspects including design, development and marketing. These diverse, yet complementary, experiences provide Cory with a broad and valuable perspective when providing intellectual property-oriented legal services.
