Sidley Austin LLP‘s insurance practice has a client base consisting of large insurance companies, private equity firms, investment banks and reinsurance platforms. The team is known for regularly acting on cross-border reinsurance transactions and representing clients in the sale of insurance businesses. Chicago-based Perry Shwachman, Amanda Todd and Sean Carney, together with New York-based Jonathan Kelly, co-lead the team. Shwachman specializes in private equity insurance M&A, while Todd has experience advising underwriters on regulatory requirements. Carney handles cross-border acquisitions of insurance groups, and Kelly has strong knowledge of reinsurance transactions. In January 2025, Paige Levitt and Sara Africano were promoted to partner; both are based in Chicago. Africano has experience advising on regulatory guidance in acquisitions concerning health insurance, while Levitt assists with reinsurance transactions. The team is further strengthened by New York-based Vincent Onorato, who represents insurance companies and asset managers, and John Grothaus, who is active in the Chicago office.
