Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP is furnished with a mightily impressive senior bench of top restructuring partners, backed by a large and established team of associates. Historically having a more creditor-oriented profile, the restructuring team now has an even balance of debtor and creditor client relationships, from public companies and distressed businesses to creditor groups, equity sponsors, and distressed equity and debt investors. It is frequently engaged in many of the landmark restructurings in the market, including advising Enviva in its prearranged Chapter 11 cases in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The restructuring team has continued to build its standing in liability management exercises, while the firm is further noted for its designated hybrid capital and special situations group. The hugely rated Paul Basta and Andrew Rosenberg co-chair the restructuring department, with the former having played a key role in developing the firm’s company-side relationships and the latter remaining highly rated for creditor-side roles. Deputy chair Alice Belisle Eaton and Brian Hermann also have fine reputations, along with Jacob Adlerstein, Kyle Kimpler and Elizabeth McColm. Ken Ziman is yet another senior practitioner. Emerging partners include Brian Bolin, who is also co-head of the hybrid capital and special situations team, and Sean Mitchell, while Robert Britton and Christopher Hopkins are also making an impression, along with Lauren Bilzin who joined in 2024 from Davidson Kempner Capital Management.  All named individuals are based in New York.

  • ‘Best top-level restructuring group, hands down. The partners do the work, are commercial, and aim to solve problems, not just spot them. Never have to be worried if they're on the matter.’

  • ‘Andrew Rosenberg and Brian Hermann are two of, if not the top two, creditor-side lawyers in the business. Brian Bolin and Lauren Bilzin are simply great with the docs.’

  • ‘Extremely talented, one of the most sophisticated practices on the street. Value for billing dramatically exceeds peer firms. They are the first firm we turn to for restructuring matters.’

  • ‘Andrew Rosenberg is a star. One of our go-to lawyers, and he never lets us down. Always focused on driving the right deal. Brian Hermann is wonderful, and Paul Basta is an institution.'

  • 'Robert Britton is a real up-and-comer at Paul Weiss, who is transitioning to rainmaking. Always looking out for clients and will fight for clients to the end. Encyclopedic knowledge of restructuring.'

  • 'Lauren Bilzin has been a wonderful addition to the group. One of the smartest people in restructuring, she is an ace at finding a path through a thicket of covenants.'

  • 'Alice Eaton is a great lawyer, and a better person. Jake Adlerstein is up-and -coming as well and has managed some sticky situations for us.’
