John L. Lyon is a partner in Thomas Horstemeyer’s patent prosecution group. John has provided intellectual property solutions for several Fortune 500 companies to develop and implement intellectual property strategies in the US and internationally.

John has counseled his clients procure numerous patents in North America, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America. He has also developed domestic and international filing strategies to match their needs and has protected and enforced their intellectual property rights in various jurisdictions. He frequently offers his clients creative strategies and solutions, understanding the bigger picture surrounding their intellectual property portfolio and the underlying technologies protected by individual patents.

John values giving back to the legal community. He is a regular speaker at continuing legal education programs on topics such as open-source software licensing, standard essential patents, and career development. He also mentors new attorneys, both within Thomas Horstemeyer and through his involvement in professional organizations.

Prior to joining Thomas Horstemeyer, John represented clients in federal class action lawsuits and performed post-judgement collections and enforcement. Before beginning his legal career, John worked as a software developer, and in the entertainment industry.
