The practice at Hernández & Cía is commended by clients for being ‘well-coordinated, professional and having outstanding experience in the field’, representing clients in the infrastructure, finance, energy, insurance and tax sectors. The department advises clients in the public and private sectors on arbitrations and negotiation strategies, as well as investor-state and commercial arbitrations before national and international arbitral institutions, including the ICC and ICSID. The practice group is co-led by experienced partners Javier de Belaunde, who has extensive experience in complex arbitration cases; and Enrique Johanson, who focuses on contractual and construction arbitration procedures. Jorge Luis Zubiate has experience representing local and foreign companies in judicial and domestic arbitration proceedings; Sheilah Vargas specialises in arbitration procedures related to the telecoms, mining and banking sectors. Senior associate Alan Pasco has expertise in arbitration matters related to the construction sector; Federico de Cárdenas focuses on commercial arbitration. Since publication, Vargas has left the firm (effective as of January 2026), as has senior associate Lourdes Luna (construction arbitration); the subsequent arrival of a seven-strong team projects team from DLA Piper Perú in March has bolstered the firm’s expertise in arbitral matters related to infrastructure and public works.
