‘A definite presence in the sector’ according to one peer, DBR Law is an eight-strong boutique which counts mining as its primary practice, while concurrently providing a broader offering that includes corporate, labour (& migration), litigation and environmental law advice. On the mining front, the team handles mining concessions and royalties, community relations and agrarian affairs (along with associated anthropological and historical protection), mining-associated water and energy matters, and permitting – particularly as regards iron ore exportation and explosives. McEwen Mining is one client of note. A former Director General of Mines (2018-2019), firm founding partner Laura Cristina Díaz Nieves leads the practice. At associate level, Alejandro Hernández Muñoz, a member of the Mexican Association of Mining Engineers, Metalworkers and Geologists (AIMMGM), provides key support; Erika Lizbet Cruz Romero assists on environmental matters; and Hugo Alejandro Jiménez, a former specialist in analysis, operation and monitoring at the General Directorate of Mines, has experience in administrative, fiscal, civil and commercial judicial processes.
