Ian is an experienced trial and appellate advocate and commercial litigator with more than 35 years' experience of all forms of dispute resolution. He was called to the Bar in 1985 and took Silk in 2002 and was admitted as a solicitor in 2006.

Ian’s expertise spans high value and complex commercial, fraud (both criminal and civil), and employment disputes in the UK, Middle East and Asia. In the course of his career he has acted for a wide range of companies, financial institutions and individuals involved in domestic and international litigation and arbitration across a variety of sectors including banking, manufacturing, automotive, oil & gas, investment and property.

Ian was accredited as a mediator by CEDR in 1997 and is an experienced mediator. He is a partner in the firm’s Commercial Disputes group, managing significant litigation and arbitration in a wide variety of areas of law and practice.

Career

Ian has a first class Law degree from Herford College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar in 1985 and appointed QC in 2002. Having practiced as a barrister at Littleton Chambers from 1985 to 2005, Ian was admitted as a solicitor in 2006. Prior to joining Stewarts in 2017, Ian was a partner at Herbert Smith Freehills.

Memberships

Ian is an accredited mediator and has acted in over 100 mediation disputes. From 2000 to 2017 he sat as a Recorder.
