Successfully represented Costa Rica in a second claim brought against the state arising out of the non-renewal by Costa Rica's electricity regulator of a contract with a local telecoms company. The claimant sought USD 25 million.
Successfully defended Bulgaria in a long-running investment arbitration initiated by ČEZ, a.s., a Czech energy utility, under the Energy Charter Treaty. The dispute stemmed from three separate investments that the claimant had made in the Bulgarian electricity sector.
Successfully represented El Salvador in an arbitration brought by a Guatemalan telecoms company under two different treaties: the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement (“CAFTA-DR”), and the Agreement on Investment and Trade in Services between the Republics of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua (“CACM Treaty”).
