Legalsa has a strong presence in Guatemala’s active private sector, advising prominent domestic companies on a steady stream of M&A and joint ventures, and assisting large family-owned groups with governance and succession structures. The team also acts for a sizeable portfolio of foreign investors, with longstanding experience of advising on the acquisition of Guatemalan targets and establishment of local subsidiaries. The energy, infrastructure, real estate and fintech sectors are all core areas of focus, and the firm also has a practice dedicated to advising start-ups in the food and tech industries, Startups Legalsa. Founding partner David Font, whose broad practice takes in M&A, foreign investment and corporate governance matters for companies involved in shareholders’ disputes, and managing partner Johann Hartleben, an expert adviser on local and cross-border M&A and corporate structuring, lead the team.
