Recognised for its ‘vast experience and technical knowledge’, Martínez Quintero Mendoza González Laguado & de la Rosa’s tax practice has gone from strength to strength following its May 2024 demerger from the DLA Piper network. The team acts for a lengthy roster of major domestic and multinational companies and it continues to add new names, with Petrobras and Glencore among the 27 clients added to its portfolio during 2024/25. Department head Andrés González provides ’creative solutions to complex problems’ and specialises in tax consulting at both the national and international levels. He recently paired up with up-and-coming tax partner Laura Galeano to advise Mercantil Colpatria on the tax aspects of the sale of its stake in Scotiabank Colpatria, Fiduciaria Scotiabank Colpatria and Scotiabank Securities (Colombia) to The Bank of Nova Scotia. Among its contentious highlights, high-profile tax litigator César Camilo Cermeño   represented several utility companies on disputes with the Public Services Superintendency and the Colombian Energy Regulation Committee over the taxable base of ‘special’ and ’additional’ contributions for public services. A strong pool of supporting lawyers includes associate director of the tax area, Juan Carlos Vinasco, as well as senior associates María Alejandra Bonilla, Juan Pablo Fernández and Óscar Munevar, who joined in June 2024 from KPMG Colombia.
