‘One of the few full-service firms with a solid labour and immigration practice’, Carey’s 22-strong labour and employment law practice acts for domestic and overseas companies on employment compliance, investigations and global mobility issues, as well as expatriates, immigration, benefits packages, M&A due diligence, and the employment aspects of transactional work. Other significant corporate employment areas include hiring processes, employee taxation, social security, corporate policies, labour auditing, subcontracting, and individual and mass terminations. On the litigation side, the department’s expertise covers high-stakes cases before the Labour Courts in relation to sexual harassment cases, violations of fundamental rights, wrongful dismissals, work-related accidents and anti-union practices. The practice is co-led by Óscar Aitken, who has over 30 years’ experience in employment matters; employment and immigration expert Francisca Corti, an adviser on benefits, compensation and internal investigations, whose transactional employment experience during 2024 includes assisting with approximately 70 transactions; and employment litigation and collective bargaining expert Francisco Arce. The practice further includes counsel Valentina Kuscevic, who advises on corporate restructuring processes, including M&A and due diligence; while in the associate ranks, senior Paulina García, along with Gonzalo Herreros, Cristóbal Balic and Marcela Tapia complete the team. In January 2025, former associates Carla Karzulovic and Constanza Trisotti departed the firm.
