It is increasingly mandated to act in IP litigation; while on the transactional side, the team assists with patent filings and IP portfolio management, as well as designing strategies that maximise value through licensing and technology transfers. Recent engagements include advising American multinational pharmaceutical company, Merck & Co, on a multi-jurisdictional trade mark strategy across South America, Central America and the Caribbean. The five-strong department is co-led by Maria Carolina Del Rio, who assists with managing trade mark and patent-related prosecutions and litigation, along with designing global protection and licensing strategies for Chilean companies, universities, start-ups, and research and development (R&D) centres; and Maria Mercedes Londoño, who has significant experience in the strategic management of IP assets, including patents and trade secrets.
