The 13-strong energy and natural resources team at Barros & Errázuriz acts on the gamut of energy-related matters in Chile, while being particularly well known for its electricity sector expertise. Comprising ‘attributes that make it unique’, the full-service practice typically assists with the negotiation of energy contracts, regulatory issues, M&A deals, joint ventures, project financing and dispute resolution; additionally, its experience extends to renewable energy matters, including hydroelectric, wind and solar energy projects, as well as transmission lines. Highlights including assisting Spanish renewable energy producer, Grenergy Renovables, with the negotiation of five power purchase agreements with EMOAC (a Copec subsidiary). The group’s principal figures are: department head José Tomás Errázuriz, a specialist in both large-scale energy projects and energy litigation; Fernando Garrido, whose broad practice ranges from energy and natural resources projects, financing and litigation, to energy M&A (including due diligence), and energy companies’ general corporate issues; and Cristóbal Pellegrini, an expert in power purchase agreements, M&A, corporate law, litigation, and project development and finance. In the associate pool, Catalina Vergara advises on the development, financing, and acquisition of energy projects, as well as natural resources matters. Raimundo Ruiz left the firm in September 2024.
