With over 40% of its work focused on compliance, BCP Abogados fields a six-member department that includes specialists in criminal compliance, anti-corruption, money laundering prevention and counterterrorism. The practice routinely develops companies and institutions’ crime prevention strategies, in accordance with both Law No. 20,393 on the Criminal Liability of Legal Entities and Law No. 21,595 on Economic Crimes. Recent mandates also include implementing compliance programmes and advising on Chile’s new Personal Data Protection Law’s framework. The group’s principal figures are: founding partner Matias Balmaceda, a former public defender who specialises in criminal litigation and compliance; his practice also takes in the design and implementation of crime prevention models. At non-partner level, the career of Iván Millán, who is ‘always willing and available to resolve legal queries’, includes a period as the chief prosecutor of the Specialised Prosecutor’s Office for Economic and Corruption Crimes in the Center-North Public Prosecutor’s Office; while the experienced Isidora Eyzaguirre advises on compliance with national and international regulations, including anti-bribery, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering and environmental regulations. Eyzaguirre’s track record further includes leading training sessions for boards of directors and senior executives from the retail, banking, mining, real estate, hedge fund and insurance sectors.
